Those of you who are a part of Women In Strength, are very familiar with one of our mascots, our OG girl, Maisie. Maisie has been with me since she was 7 weeks old and she has been a gym pup since the day I picked her up. She's the happy and bright smile you see when you come to the studio and your support buddy through your workouts. And she's my best girl.
On October 11th, Maisie started showing neurological symptoms where she was losing function of her hind legs, sensation, as well as bowel control. We don't know if there was any specific cause to it (rough play with her sisters, running around too hard, etc.) or if it's been something that has been building over time.
As of Tuesday, October 13th, Maisie is awaiting an MRI and most likely surgery to correct the issue, which is suspected to be Intervertebral Disc Disease (also known as a slipped disc). Considering her current symptoms -- no use of her back legs, no deep pain sensation (has no reaction to a stimulus), and no control of bladder. She has a 50% chance of making a full recovery with surgery, which is less than ideal, but I will do anything for this girl and to try to give her the best life.
Whatever direction the surgery goes, Maisie will have about a 12 week recovery time. We won't know if she'll make a full recovery until about 2 weeks post-op and from there that will determine physical therapy to continue working function back or adjusting her to a dog wheelchair.
Maisie Moo has a long road ahead of her, but she's a strong girl and determined.
