**Help Leia Get the Surgery She Needs**
Four years ago, Princess Leia came into my life at just four months old. Since then, she has filled our days with love, laughter, long walks, belly rubs, and her favorite bedtime routine—burrowing under the covers to sleep.
Aside from environmental allergies, Leia has always been a happy and healthy dog. Unfortunately, at the end of July, everything changed. She began urinating frequently, straining, and passing small amounts of blood. We initially believed she had a urinary tract infection, so we took her to an urgent-care veterinarian. She was prescribed antibiotics, and although her symptoms temporarily improved, they returned just one day after she finished the medication.
Because it was the weekend, we had to take Leia to an emergency veterinarian. An X-ray revealed that she has five large bladder stones. A urine culture confirmed that the antibiotics were effective against her infection, but the stones continued to irritate her bladder and provide a place for bacteria to hide. After another round of antibiotics, her symptoms once again returned.
Leia now needs surgery to remove the stones. Without surgery, they will continue causing pain, bleeding, urinary infections, and potentially a life-threatening blockage. The stones will also be analyzed so her veterinarian can determine how to prevent them from coming back. She has already started a prescription urinary diet and may need to remain on it for the rest of her life.
Leia is such a loving, gentle girl, and she deserves the chance to get back to her normal walks, belly rubs, and cozy nights under the covers. We are asking for help covering the cost of her surgery, diagnostic testing, medications, and aftercare.
