Documentary about Mark Crispin Miller

Now that you know the story, help us make Reading the World this important feature-length documentary.

For decades, Mark Crispin Miller has worked bravely to dispel the fog of propaganda that has variously baffled us since World War II. From the Seventies into this century, this tireless writer, activist, and popular professor was a frequent guest on both mainstream and alternative media—until 2005, when he "went too far," by turning his attention to election theft, and other taboo subjects deemed "conspiracy theory" by all the media, as well as academia. But such censorship and smears have not deterred Mark from his patriotic search for truth, his service to American democracy, and devotion to peace.

We estimate that the entire cost of Reading the World will be 331,717. At present, our goal is to raise $55,000 to complete principal photography, i.e. 15 interviews to be shot in the second quarter of 2026. Each interview averages $3300 including crew, travel, and equipment. An additional $5,000 is needed to cover processing and organization of the interviews. Both items are in bold in the summary. A detailed budget is available upon request.

Reading the World is being made by Mark’s family, we who know best how to tell his story, and the stakes involved for Mark: a person of conscience, devoted to the tenets of democracy. Further, we are artists with experience in storytelling and filmmaking.

The conception and making of the film are the primary undertaking of:

DirectorAmy Smiley, PhD, LCSW, novelist (Hiking Underground, 2023), poet, and essayist on literature, history, psychoanalysis, and art (her work has appeared in journals in the USA and France), as well as a visual artist. A former professor of French Literature at Johns Hopkins University, she is a psychotherapist in private practice in Greenwich Village since 2003. She has also conceived of and directed the extended trailer for this film.

Cinematographer and Sound EngineerLouie Miller, a production sound mixer for narrative and documentary films in NYC since 2017. An avid photographer, he has honed his skills as cinematographer since 2023. Louie earned his BA in Film Studies at NYU. Since the outset of this documentary, Louie has been cinematographer for approximately 25 hours of filming and has extensively researched related media to tell Mark's story.

Story Consultant and Music Supervisor Billy Miller, has been writing, directing, and editing films and music videos since 2018. An actor since 2016, he studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory and has starred in independent feature films. Billy has been integral to the narrative arc and music supervision of the trailer of Reading the World.
