Suzi Voyles Cancer Battle

Suzi Voyles is a pillar of our community. She is a teacher, caregiver, and volunteer to whoever is in need. In August she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of unknown origin. Her care requires costly uncovered medications and treatments at MD Anderson and at home.

We are all navigating the news that our dear friend Suzi received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. While the current prognosis is trending towards a positive outcome, it does come with a rather large bill. We are extremely grateful for how she has selflessly cared for us and our families. It is our turn to love on her and her family as they navigate care teams, treatment plans, and providing Suzi with the best quality of life.

At this time, Suzi is pursuing a more holistic treatment plan. This doctor was highly recommended to her by two friends who are now cancer-free. Just since starting this plan last week, Suzi is feeling better than she has in months. Currently, the plan is for eight weeks, and at the end of that time, they will evaluate if she should remain on this treatment, tweak it, and/or add in more conventional methods of treating cancer.

Thankfully, Suzi has been accepted into MD Anderson and is grateful that it is an option if needed. Treatment unfortunately is going to be a costly endeavor for Suzi and her family especially if a stay at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas is necessary. Right now her treatment is running over $2,000 per month. We are grateful for any amount you may be able to help with as Suzi and her family work to balance these unexpected expenses.

Psalm 121:1-2:

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains— from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

For more information on Suzi's diagnosis -

Cancer of unknown primary is a disease that has metastasized (spread) from another part of the body. The place where it began, also called the primary site, is unknown. These cases make up about 2% to 5% of cancers diagnosed in the United States. Thanks to better diagnostic tests, though, they are becoming less common.

About four of every five cases that are first diagnosed as cancer of unknown primary eventually are confirmed to be specific types of cancer.

Cancer of unknown primary often is challenging because it tends to be aggressive and has often spread to many parts of the body before it is found. In addition, because origin of cancer is unknown, it may be more challenging to choose the best treatment.
