When life changes in an instant, community becomes everything.
Our dear friends, Danny and Sierra Wike, who we consider family, are facing an unexpected and frightening season as they fight to keep their sweet baby and mamma safe.
On Sunday, October 18th, Sierra went into premature labor, two and a half months before her due date. A portion of her placenta had separated from her uterus, causing significant bleeding and a blood clot. What should have been a beautiful season of preparing to welcome their baby suddenly became an emergency.
Danny and Sierra were medevaced from their home on Maui to Oahu, where doctors were thankfully able to stabilize Sierra and slow her contractions.
While we are incredibly grateful that both mama and baby are stable right now, they are not out of the woods yet.
Sierra is currently hospitalized under close observation for at least the next three days. After that, even if everything continues to go well, she will be unable to return home to Maui. Instead, she will need to remain on Oahu until early December to stay close to Kapiolani Medical Center, where she and her baby can receive specialized care should their little one decide to arrive early.
And this is where we need our community to come together.
As newlyweds still, Danny and Sierra should be spending this season preparing their home, dreaming about their baby’s arrival, and enjoying these final months together before becoming parents.
Instead, they are facing weeks of uncertainty, unexpected medical expenses, the cost of living away from home, and the emotional weight of being separated from everything familiar.
Sierra will be on bed rest and unable to work. She will also miss being home for Thanksgiving. Danny will be doing everything he can to continue working on Maui while traveling back and forth to Oahu to be by his wife’s side as much as he can.
The financial burden of maintaining life on Maui while also covering accommodations, transportation, meals, and other unexpected expenses on Oahu will be significant.
And quite simply, we don’t want finances to be one more thing they have to worry about right now.
If you know Danny and Sierra, you love them and know how special they are and how incredible it has been to witness their love for each other.
We are asking our friends, family, and community to rally around this beautiful couple and help carry some of the weight of the coming weeks.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go toward helping them navigate this unexpected season so they can focus on what matters most: keeping Sierra and their precious baby safe, healthy, and together.
If you are unable to give financially, sharing this fundraiser and keeping this little family in your prayers would mean the world.
There is something incredibly beautiful about a community coming together when life takes an unexpected turn. We may not be able to change what they have to walk through, but we can absolutely change how much of the burden they have to carry alone.
Let’s surround Danny, Sierra, and their sweet baby with the kind of love and support that reminds them they are not walking through this alone.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for loving them alongside us.
With so much love and gratitude.
