I'm reaching out today with a humble heart and an urgent need. I'm asking for help getting a new remote-controlled power wheelchair after a frightening accident left me without the mobility I depend on every single day.
My last wheelchair severely cracked at the frame above one of the wheels, and I was thrown from my chair. After being taken to the hospital, I'm now back home, but I'm facing a difficult reality: my wheelchair is broken, and without it, I cannot get around on my own.
My wheelchair is not just a chair to me. It is my legs. It is my freedom, my independence, and my way of life.
I use a hand-held remote control to operate my wheelchair, and without a working chair, I'm essentially stuck. I can't get outside, go where I need to go, or simply enjoy the everyday things in life that many people may take for granted. I have to depend on someone physically helping me get from one place to another, and losing my independence in this way has been incredibly difficult.
Power wheelchairs can cost anywhere from approximately $8,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the equipment and features needed. I'm setting my initial fundraising goal at $8,000 to help me get started toward replacing my wheelchair as quickly as possible. I'm hoping to raise enough to expedite the process so I don't have to spend any longer than necessary without the mobility I desperately need.
I'm not asking for anything extravagant. I'm asking for the ability to move around, get outside, take care of everyday needs, and begin living my life again with some independence.
