Help a 63-Year-Old Editor Regain Stability and Stay on the Road
My name is Brian. I am 63 years old, and after a sudden marital separation and unexpected job loss, I am facing a severe financial crisis. I am launching this GiveSendGo campaign to raise funds for a bankruptcy attorney and essential car repairs so I can keep a roof over my head and remain close to my 98-year-old father, who increasingly needs my support.
For decades, I worked as an educational editor and writer. Unfortunately, due to the heavy intrusion of AI into the writing field and the realities of ageism, it has become impossible to find comparable work despite sending out hundreds of applications. I applied for my Social Security benefits early to survive, and I drive for Uber to supplement that income.
Recently, I was unexpectedly forced out of my home due to a marital separation. I was able to find an affordable apartment near my father in Florida, but losing my home tipped my finances past the breaking point. Over the years, I took on the burden of our shared expenses and healthcare costs, leaving me with $66,000 in debt. I am now being sued by a major bank for $36,000, and my wages will likely be garnished. Between rent, basic utilities, and vehicle costs, my monthly operating funds are already negative. I would love to pay my debts, but without bankruptcy protection, I simply cannot survive.
I am doing everything I can to work, but my health limits my hours. After receiving the COVID shots (which I only took so I could safely visit my elderly parents), I developed Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD). This condition causes severe dizziness at high speeds and panic attacks over high bridges, limiting my Uber driving to short, local trips. I also suffer from leg weakness and fatigue that prevents me from taking on retail jobs where standing is required.
To keep working, I desperately need to keep my 2014 Dodge safely on the road. The funds raised here will go directly to:
- The retainer for a bankruptcy lawyer to stop the lawsuit and wage garnishment.
- Four new tires.
- An oil pressure sensor switch installation.
