McKinney’s charter applies to City Hall, too
The City says there is no deadline to finish verifying recall signatures. We believe that position conflicts with the charter when its provisions are read together.
Section 135 provides 30 days to review initiative & referendum petitions. Section 145 requires recall petitions to conform to those provisions. Section 146 directs examination “at once.” (mckinney.legistar.com (https://mckinney.legistar.com/gateway.aspx?ID=67ba67b9-3910-4cc2-a948-32c5579313f0.pdf&M=F&utm_source=chatgpt.com), mckinney.legistar.com (https://mckinney.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?FullText=1&GUID=CDF22F30-56B4-46CE-A7D8-4954B23F36B1&ID=3852076&Options=&Search=&utm_source=chatgpt.com), mckinney.legistar.com (https://mckinney.legistar.com/gateway.aspx?id=18070&m=l&utm_source=chatgpt.com))
We are raising money for attorney fees & court costs to pursue a lawsuit against the City of McKinney seeking enforcement of these requirements.
Residents were required to follow the rules & meet deadlines. City Hall must honor its obligations, too.
Whether you supported the recall or opposed it, everyone deserves a lawful process. The protections in our charter belong to every resident.
