My name is Jesse Barry and I am an Arborist in Madison, Wi. I have owned my own business for 15 years after working as a Trauma RN for the first 15 years of my professional career. The melding of these two careers has led me to design a cooling garment called ColdSpell that maximizes the technology used in the critical care units of hospitals with the convenience and accessibility required for workers, athletes, first responders and victims of natural disasters to provide lifesaving and performance enhancing cooling in hot and humid environments.

I am working with several organizations including our state University, the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut, local mentoring programs and patent attorneys to bring this idea to market but I have several financial obstacles to get to a stage where larger scale investors can be recruited.   The most important one is getting a production quality prototype.

I have the CAD drawings and design company ready to go, I just need to be able to pay them for the work they have done.

I am asking for your help to get me over this hurdle so that we can have ColdSpell cooling garments in production as soon as possible. Any gift, large or small, would be very much appreciated. Initial prototype development: $500 deposit and then up to $6000

If we can make substantial headway on this goal, we can get the ball rolling to a point where I am confident we can attract investors and be in a position to begin production.

This product is necessary because the largest weather-related cause of death in the US is heat. More than tornadoes and hurricanes added together. Heat effects hundreds of millions of people and this garment can be utilized without need for refrigeration, electrical power, or air conditioning units. The garment can be shared among team or family members and, based on concepts researched and developed by the Korey Stringer Institute, does not need to be worn continuously to essentially prevent the likelihood of heat stroke.

The CDC says anyone, especially the elderly, young, poor, or those with chronic health issues, who live in an area where the average annual temperature is above 55F can be at risk for heat illness. The greatest risk occurs when there are stretches of hot or humid weather longer than three days in duration and the incidence of those episodes is increasing. That includes everyone who lives in the yellow, orange or red areas on the map below.

In the summer of 2022 60,000 people in Europe died from heat in a 90 day stretch during their record setting summer temperatures.
