Where Protest Meets Power: Nigel Barriffe

Help ProtestMania uncover the relationships, networks of influence, and overlapping interests that underpin Toronto’s protest circuit and Canada’s activist-industrial-complex.

Why bother? These connections intersect with pressing issues facing citizens across the country, including unchecked antisemitism, public safety and order, and a climate of escalating political violence.

It starts by examining prominent figures’ publicly observable associations, the individuals and organizations with whom they appear to share ideological agendas, and the ways activist networks extend their influence into other spheres of public life.

Next up: Nigel Barriffe

Nigel Barriffe is president of Elementary Teachers of Toronto, president of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, and a board member of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network. He is also an active campaigner for incumber Councillor Alejandra Bravo.

The Pitch

ProtestMania has already invested years of work and countless hours, at significant personal cost, documenting demonstrations and political events across Toronto. This provides a unique vantage point from which to examine broader patterns that others may overlook. Now you can help complete the analysis.

If you want this work to continue, please support it: Subscribe to the ProtestMania Substack or sponsor a project here. Every contribution helps cover the time, research, documentation, and expenses required to turn an extensive archive of on-the-ground reporting into meaningful analysis.

ProtestMania doesn’t accept government funds. Independence is our strength. Our power comes from the people, and from within.
