Nicholas Gurney's Funeral Expenses

Nicholas Gurney was hit by a car and died on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 at approximately 7:20 am. We are raising money to help cover his funeral and medical expenses. Your support during this difficult time means so much to us.

There's a saying that only the good die young, and another that says life isn't fair. Today, both of those sayings landed like a gut punch to the hearts of everyone who knew and loved Nicholas Gurney.

We're still unclear on exactly how Nick was hit by a car early this morning, but that's neither here nor there — the how and why don't change the outcome. Nick has passed away, and everyone who loved him is left trying to make sense of how such a tragedy could happen to such an undeserving person.

Nick had been dealt blow after blow since around his 19th birthday, when his college plans were abruptly halted by epilepsy. Epilepsy stole his freedom, his jobs, his driver's license, and his ability to live the adventurous life he loved. In 2025, on his 33rd birthday, he underwent brain surgery, and after months of grueling recovery, Nick got his life back — his freedom, his license, his ability to dream and chase adventure again. He was only 34 when he died this morning, and he hadn't gotten to check off nearly enough of those adventures yet. Life is truly unfair and heartbreaking. Nick deserved more, and his family and friends deserved more time with him. Nick was loved by so many and liked by all.

Nick was hit by a car and was unresponsive and not breathing at the scene. Firefighters revived him, and he was rushed to Sacred Heart, where a surgical team worked hard to find and fix everything that was broken — but the situation was grave. From what we understand, Nick suffered internal bleeding, broken femurs, a broken neck and spine, they removed his spleen, patched his liver, and amputated an arm. He received 68 units of blood, and it's a miracle he survived as long as he did. It's unknown whether he would have ever walked, talked, or had another adventure again. As much as it leaves those left behind in anguish, God taking him was probably a mercy to Nick.

Death has no compassion for people who are in shock, reeling, and completely thrown off center by unexpected loss. It expects decisions and payment for services rendered, and it wants them now. This family is grieving, and while everyone in it will pitch in where they can, it would mean the world if you're able and willing to contribute in some small way to help ease their burden. Every donation will go directly to Nick's parents, who are carrying the weight of these heartbreaking decisions and will use the funds for his expenses.

Nick, we love you. We will miss you every day and we will adventure for you. Be at peace, my brother. You are so loved.
