Hello everyone!

My name is Jennifer Bush- Harris. I am an African-American mother of 2, who is currently a Nursing student at Chamberlain University here in St. Louis, Missouri.

I have been a CNA for 12 years, and have decided to pursue my BSN and be a second generation registered nurse. I would be following in my mother’s footsteps— which I am humbled by.

My hope is to finish this degree, and to work in hospital setting, before going into Maternal Health. My emphasis will then be maternal health of Black women.

As most of you all know with the changes to financial aid requirements, the stripping away of certain scholarship monies, and grant/loan opportunities, paying for college is difficult.

While I do have some Federal Aid that will help me, I am scared there will be a short fall and I may have to drop out because of the inability to pay. With the transferring of my current credits, the quickest time I can complete this program is 2 years, 6 months.

I take this profession, and my role in it, seriously. In my current role as a CNA, I do my best to care for those who I have been assigned to for 12-hour overnight shifts.

In those 12 hour shifts, I am away from my children, who still need their mother and the benefits of my full-time employment. And I must remain employed full-time in order to get tuition assistance from my employer, along with any other discounts they offer.

Chamberlain University has given me the graduation date of May 2029. The total cost of the program is about $30,000. I am only asking for about half of that: $15, 000.

I understand everyone has their own struggles, they are trying to survive, do better, and even finish their own degrees! Whatever you can give to support me on this life-changing journey, which will touch the lives of so many people who look like me, I am greatly appreciative.

Thank you.
