Help my mom keep her home

My mom is facing one of the hardest times of her life, and I’m asking for help because I don’t know how to fix this for her on my own. Recently, my mom found out that her husband has cancer. As devastating as that news was, shortly afterward he told her that he no longer wanted to be with her. Now, while she is still trying to process the end of her marriage and everything that has happened, she is also facing the possibility of losing the home she has lived in for so long. She is being faced with an impossible choice: somehow come up with the money to buy the house, or sell it and split the proceeds. I have watched all of this completely break my mom’s heart. She barely leaves the house anymore. She spends most of her time at home, and so many nights end with her crying. She tries to be strong, especially around the people who love her, but I can see how scared and overwhelmed she is. 

As her daughter, one of the hardest things is watching my mom go through this and knowing that I can’t simply make it better for her. My mom is unable to work and lives on disability after being injured at work years ago. Because of that, she doesn’t have the financial ability to suddenly come up with the amount she needs to buy the house on her own. That is why I’m asking for help. Every dollar raised will go directly toward helping my mom try to buy the house and keep the one place that still gives her some sense of security and stability. To some people, it may just be a house. To my mom, it is her home. It is where she has built her life and made countless memories. It is where she feels safe. It is also the home she shares with her dogs, who mean absolutely everything to her. They aren’t just pets to her—they are her babies and some of her greatest sources of comfort during one of the darkest periods of her life. 

If she loses this house, she could lose them too. What scares me most is that my mom truly has nowhere else to go. If she cannot keep the house and cannot find somewhere affordable to live, there is a very real possibility that she could end up living in her car. I don’t want that to be her future. I know I can’t take away the heartbreak she is going through. I can’t undo everything that has happened. But I’m hoping that, with enough people willing to help—even just a little—we can at least take away the fear of losing her home. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small.
