My name is Darrin Ford, and I serve as a minister with Reach Global Missions. I’m asking you to partner with me in taking the hope of Jesus to people in desperate need throughout Latin America.

I am raising $3,000 per month for six months each year to help make it possible for me to serve in missions work throughout Latin America. My desire is to come alongside established ministries, serve local churches and missionaries, and most importantly, share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with people who are hurting and in need.

My First Upcoming Project: Guatemala City

In January, I will be traveling to Guatemala City to serve with Misión Desafío.

In the heart of Guatemala City, thousands of people live in and around the city's landfill. Families survive by scavenging through the dump for anything they can find that might be useful or that can be sold. Misión Desafío serves approximately 510 families living in this extreme poverty.

Rev. Dana Croft and his wife, Damaris, have faithfully served this community for more than ten years. Their ministry provides practical help, education, food, family support, and, most importantly, the opportunity for people to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

One story that particularly captures the heart of this ministry is the story of Miriam, a single mother of four.

Miriam's two oldest children were only eight and nine years old when they were recruited by a local gang and introduced to drugs and gang life. Tragically, both children eventually lost their lives to gang violence.

Miriam was devastated. She was grieving the loss of her children while trying to care for her two younger children and survive the tremendous challenges of life in the dumpsite community.

A neighbor told her about Misión Desafío, and Miriam came asking for something as simple as food for her children.

She received food—but she received so much more.

Her two younger children were enrolled in school. Miriam heard the Word of God. And through that ministry, she came to know Jesus Christ.

For the first time in the midst of some of the darkest circumstances imaginable, Miriam discovered hope.

True hope.

That is the kind of ministry I want to be part of.

Serving Where God Opens the Door

During my January trip, I will be helping with work at the Misión Desafío family center, ministering to children and their families and serving wherever I am needed.

But Guatemala is only the beginning.

I am also praying and preparing for future opportunities to serve in Mexico and Ecuador, working alongside ministries that are already reaching their communities with the Gospel.

My desire isn't simply to visit these places. I want to serve, build relationships, encourage missionaries and local churches, meet practical needs, and point people toward Jesus.
