Habit of Hope Challenge: Week 1 (Simple Starts — Hope Begins Small)

Posted by Alex Shipley on Jul 1, 2025

Welcome to Week 1 of the Habit of Hope Challenge! Sharing hope doesn't have to be big or flashy. Most of the time, it starts in small, quiet moments-at your kitchen table, in a grocery store aisle, or whispered in prayer while folding laundry. This week is all about embracing simple starts. No grand gestures needed-just small, intentional choices that spread hope and make a real difference. Haven't joined the challenge yet? There's still time! Day 1 - July 1 Smile First Start the week with something contagious (in the best way): your smile! Make eye contact and offer a genuine smile to someone today-at the store, on a walk, at church. Day 2 - July 2 Text: "You crossed my mind." That person God brought to mind? Text them. No pressure to say more. Sometimes the smallest reach-out means the most. Day 3 - July 3 Pray for One Pick one person. Just one. Pray quietly for their heart, life, or healing. Want to go a step further? Day 4 - July 4 Gratitude = Freedom Independence Day is the perfect time to remember what we're thankful for. Write it down. Bonus points if you share it with someone! Day 5 - July 5 Hold the Door, Hold Space Today's about noticing people. Hold a door open. Listen without rushing. Hope slows us down. Day 6 - July 6 Compliment Character Tell someone something you admire in them that has nothing to do with their appearance. Watch how it changes the moment. Day 7 - July 7 Repost Hope Head to GiveSendGo's social media pages and repost something hope-filled. Tag us or use the hashtag #60DaysOfHope so we can see and cheer you on! Want to Do More? Snap some pics of you completing each day's hope mission and post them on social media! Tag us @GiveSendGo and use #60DaysOfHope Invite a friend or family member to join you! This week is about showing up for the small things-because that's where habits (and hope) begin. We can't wait to see what God does in and through you. Here's to 60 days of intentional hope!

WEEK 1: Simple Starts - Hope Begins Small July 1-7, 2025 This week is all about low-pressure, personal acts of hope. No big crowds. No fanfare. Just you, your heart, and small decisions that make a quiet difference. Day 1 - July 1 Smile First. Make eye contact and offer a genuine smile to someone today-at the store, on a walk, wherever you are. Drop a comment: How did they react? Day 2 - July 2 Text Someone: "You crossed my mind." No long explanation needed. Just a little ping of encouragement to let someone know they matter. Bonus: Share their response if you feel led. Day 3 - July 3 Pray for One. Pick one person. Offer up a quiet prayer for their peace, healing, direction-whatever comes to your heart. Optional: Post a short prayer or add to GiveSendGo's Prayer Wall. Day 4 - July 4 Gratitude = Freedom. Write down one thing you're thankful for. It could be deep or totally random. Gratitude shifts perspective. Want to share yours? Drop it in the comments. Day 5 - July 5 Hold the Door, Hold Space. Literally hold the door for someone today-but also pause and be present with someone if the moment comes. Sometimes hope is hidden in tiny delays. Day 6 - July 6 Compliment Character. Tell someone something you admire that has nothing to do with how they look. Be sincere. Be specific. What did you say? We'd love to hear it. Day 7 - July 7 Repost Hope. Find a hope-filled post / video / reel from GiveSendGo's feed, and share it to your feed with your thoughts, using the hashtag: #60DaysOfHope Tag us or use the hashtag to spread light! WEEK 2: Hope in Motion - Small Acts with Big Ripples July 8-14, 2025 This week builds on last week's quiet start. You're still acting as one person-but your kindness is beginning to ripple outward. It's about noticing others and stepping in with warmth and generosity. Day 8 - July 8 Send a Surprise Encouragement. Think of someone who's been quiet lately. Send them a short voice memo, email, or text reminding them you're in their corner. You never know who needs it more than they let on. Day 9 - July 9 Leave a Note in the Wild. Write a kind, anonymous message and leave it where someone will find it-on a mirror, tucked in a library book, or taped to a bench. Share a photo if you're brave-or just tell us what it said. Day 10 - July 10 Notice Someone's Effort. Tell someone (coworker, parent, cashier, teacher) that you see what they do-and it matters. Appreciation is hope in human form. Day 11 - July 11 Lift Someone Online. Scroll with kindness. Leave a thoughtful comment on a friend's post or reply with warmth to someone who shared something vulnerable. Tag us or use #60DaysOfHope if you feel inspired to share what you wrote. Day 12 - July 12 Let Someone Go First. At the store, in traffic, in a conversation-pause and make space for someone else to go first today. Sometimes stepping back is the most generous move. Day 13 - July 13 Give Something Away. Donate a book, a jacket, a tool, or anything you haven't used in a while to someone who could use it. Snap a pic or tell us the story behind what you gave. Day 14 - July 14 Pray for a stranger's GiveSendGo Campaign. This is where your faith meets action. Visit GiveSendGo.com and find a campaign that resonates with you. Use the pray button to share a prayer with them. Ask God to move in their life in unseen ways. Want to write out your prayer? Add it to the Prayer Wall. WEEK 3: Hope That Connects - Building Community Through Kindness July 15-21, 2025 This week, hope becomes a bridge. You'll connect with neighbors, friends, and even strangers in simple ways that say, "You're not alone." Day 15 - July 15 Share a Positive Memory With Someone. Call, text, or message someone and say, "Remember when...?" Joy multiplies when it's remembered together. Day 16 - July 16 Offer Help Without Being Asked. Take initiative-carry a bag, refill a printer, hold a crying baby, bring water to a worker. Be the one who notices and steps in. Day 17 - July 17 Host a "Mini Moment" Meetup. Invite someone over for coffee, go for a walk, or meet at a park. One-on-one time fosters deep encouragement. Don't underestimate a quiet moment shared. Day 18 - July 18 Write a Prayer for Someone. Ask someone: "Can I pray for you this week?" Then actually write out a short prayer and give or send it. Or post it on the GiveSendGo prayer wall to lift someone up. Day 19 - July 19 Donate to a GiveSendGo Campaign. Visit GiveSendGo.com and give to either a friend or a complete stranger. It's not about the amount-it's about the faith behind the gift. Pick a campaign that speaks to your heart. Comment "I did it!" if you want! Day 20 - July 20 Bring a Treat to Share. Whether it's cookies at church, fruit at work, or snacks for the mail carrier-food is hope you can hold. Tag a photo with #60DaysOfHope if you want to share! Day 21 - July 21 Share a Verse That Sustains You. Post a verse, write it on a mirror, or text it to someone who needs hope. God's Word is the anchor for every kind of storm. "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." - Hebrews 10:23 WEEK 4: Hope That Multiplies - Light for the Wider World July 22-28, 2025 Your hope is starting to shine outward now. This week, you'll bless more people, touch more spaces, and begin thinking missionally. Day 22 - July 22 Offer to Pray for a Stranger. You'll feel nervous-but do it anyway. Ask, "Can I pray for you today?" Courage + compassion = revival in miniature. Day 23 - July 23 Share a Favorite Recipe. Food brings people together. Post it online or send it to a friend. Include why it matters to you-stories feed the soul. Day 24 - July 24 Give Away Something New. Buy a small new item just to give it away (like a notebook, candle, journal, or coffee). Giving doesn't have to come from excess-it can come from intention. Day 25 - July 25 Offer Encouragement in Public. Compliment someone in front of others-at work, church, or online.Shine a spotlight of honor. What you say publicly can shift a whole atmosphere. Day 26 - July 26 Gather a Group to Do Good. Organize something simple: a group clean-up, prayer walk, food drive, or note-writing session. Post what you're planning-we'll cheer you on! Day 27 - July 27 Email US a Story of Hope. Share a moment from your life when hope won. Write a small paragraph or record a video and send it to press@givesendgo.com. Your story might end up on our feed the next day :) Day 28 - July 28 Volunteer for One Hour. Give your time today. Whether you serve meals, fold bulletins, or write emails for a nonprofit-show up and pour out. Hope gets hands and feet when we step in. WEEK 5: Hope in Action - Hands and Feet of Faith July 29-August 4, 2025 You're becoming a hope-bringer-on purpose, with purpose. Day 29 - July 29 Leave Flowers for Someone. Drop off a small bouquet or single stem at a neighbor's porch, a friend's desk, or a stranger's car windshield. Origami counts too! Day 30 - July 30 Write a Thank-You Card. Pick one person who's shaped your life. Mail or hand them a thank-you card. Gratitude is one of hope's purest forms. Day 31 - July 31 Teach a Small Skill. Pass on a simple tip: a recipe, a budgeting hack, a Bible study method. Comment what you shared and to who! Day 32 - August 1 Donate Clothes or Essentials. Declutter with purpose. Give items in good condition to a shelter or church. Poll: Goodwill or Salvies? Day 33 - August 2 Post a Prayer Request. Maybe YOU need hope too? Post your request on the GiveSendGo Prayer Wall. Your presence may be the most powerful gift you give this month. Day 42 - August 11 Donate to a Food Bank. Bring shelf-stable items to a food pantry or church drop box. The Perfect Father

The Perfect Father

Posted by Tina Fairclough on Jun 14, 2025

Many of us have been blessed with wonderful dads. Others, unfortunately, had no father figure at all. Maybe your dad was kind and present-or perhaps distant, or even harsh. Maybe he was someone whose love you longed for, but never quite felt. Whatever your experience, there's a deep longing inside every human heart for the steady presence of someone strong, kind, and safe-someone who knows you fully and loves you just the same. This Father's Day, let's also take a moment to celebrate the One who is Father to each of us. God is not a stained-glass image or a list of rules. He is the very One who dreamed your life into being, who formed your heart in love, and who watches over you with tender strength. He's not looking for perfection, and He's not measuring your worth by your performance. He is a loving Father who lifts your chin when you're discouraged, holds you closer than any friend when you're afraid, and celebrates even your smallest steps toward healing and wholeness. Even if you've never called Him "Father," He has always loved you as one. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are not too much-or too little. You are seen, loved, and wanted by your Father-on Father's Day and every day. Not because of anything you've done, but because of who He is: the perfect Father, always waiting with open arms-just for you. 1 John 3:16 - "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us." Psalm 103:13 - "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him." Luke 15:20 - "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him."

Ditch the Screens and Live Out Generosity as a Family

Summer is here and it's the perfect time to slow down, soak up the sunshine, and make memories with your family. But this National Family Month, why not add a special mission to your summer plans? Sharing hope together as a family not only strengthens your bonds but also makes a real impact on others. Here are 5 fun ways your family can get out, be generous, and share hope together this summer! 1. Start a Campaign on GiveSendGo For Someone in Need Pick a cause close to your hearts-maybe supporting a local foster family, helping a neighbor in need, or sponsoring a mission trip. Creating a family GiveSendGo campaign is a wonderful way to teach your kids about generosity and the power of community. Plus, it's a chance for your whole family to rally around a shared goal, pray for the cause, and celebrate every milestone together. Who says fundraising can't be fun? 2. Host a Neighborhood Picnic Invite your neighbors, friends, and their families for a community picnic in your backyard or at the park. Pack food, games, and encouraging notes or small gifts to share. This simple gathering is a great way to build relationships and spread hope in your own neighborhood. Bonus points if your family shares the story of your GiveSendGo fundraiser and encourages others to give or start their own! 3. Make and Deliver Hope Kits in Your Community Gather your family to assemble "Hope Kits" filled with essentials like water bottles, snacks, hygiene items, and uplifting notes. These can be given to the homeless, natural disaster victims, or those going through a tough season. Making these kits together teaches empathy and service, plus it's a hands-on way to show love in action. Your kids will love getting involved in what you're doing and experiencing the joy that comes from giving! 4. Join the Giver Army With Your Kids This summer, invite your kids to be part of something bigger by joining the Giver Army together. Gather around as a family and explore the different Giver Army causes - like Crisis Response, Pro-Life, Faith-Based, Arts & Education, and more. Let your kids help choose the one that matters most to them, then pledge a monthly donation as a family. Kids love having a voice in where their time and money go. It helps them see that generosity isn't just for grown-ups - it's something they can do right now to make a real difference. And once you've joined, keep an eye out for GiveSendGo Charities' impact reports. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how Giver Army grants are bringing hope to people around the world who need it most. 5. Commit to Sharing Hope Every Day for a Week This summer, set aside one week to be intentionally generous as a family. Each day, choose one simple way to share hope with others-whether it's writing thank-you cards to neighbors, volunteering at a local food bank, praying as a family for someone in need, leaving encouraging messages with sidewalk chalk, or dropping off food or treats to shut-ins. Make it a game with small rewards for each completed act and keep a "Hope Journal" where your family writes down what you did each day, who you prayed for, and how God is answering prayers. You can even let each family member take turns choosing the daily activity. It's not about doing something big-it's about being consistent. This simple practice helps your family build a habit of generosity, pay attention to what God is doing around you, and make meaningful memories in the process. National Family Month is the perfect time to invite your family into something deeper-an adventure that makes a lasting impact. Whether it's through GiveSendGo, local outreach, or simple everyday kindness, every act of generosity makes a difference. So this summer, try a few of these ideas and watch your family grow closer-not just to each other, but to God, and those you share hope with-as you shine His light in a world that desperately needs it!

Make Waves This Summer with These 10 Fundraising Ideas

Summer is here-and with it comes sunshine, adventures, and plenty of opportunities to make an impact. Whether you're planning a mission trip, tackling a big project, or simply want to bless someone in need, summer is the perfect time to start a campaign on GiveSendGo. Need a few ideas to get you started? We've got you covered. 1. Start a Summer Mission Trip Campaign Mission trips don't stop when school does-in fact, summer is prime time. Whether you're traveling across the globe or heading to another state, your campaign can help fund travel, lodging, ministry supplies, and more. And with GiveSendGo, your story doesn't just raise money-it helps you share the hope of Jesus. 2. Raise Funds for VBS or Summer Church Programs Running Vacation Bible School? Planning a youth retreat? Hosting a summer outreach? These events are amazing opportunities to reach families, but they come with real costs. From snacks and t-shirts to crafts and curriculum, a GiveSendGo campaign can help cover the extras so your team can focus on ministry. 3. Help Send Kids to Camp Camp can be life-changing-but it can also be expensive. If you know a child or teen who'd benefit from a week of worship, hiking, and campfire testimonies, create a campaign to help cover the costs. You could even sponsor an entire group! 4. Fund a Family Reunion or Restorative Getaway Some families haven't gathered in years. Others need time away to rest and reconnect after a difficult season. Your campaign could help fund travel, food, or lodging to make those moments happen. Because sometimes, giving hope looks like a shared meal and laughter on a front porch. 5. Host a Summer BBQ or Block Party Fundraiser Skip the formal gala-throw a cookout! You can sell tickets, ask for suggested donations, or offer fun add-ons like a dunk tank or raffle. It's a low-stress way to raise funds and bring your community together at the same time. 6. Provide Emergency Help After Summer Disasters Summer heat and storms can bring floods, wildfires, and power outages. If you or someone you know is facing a crisis, GiveSendGo makes it easy to set up a campaign quickly and start getting help where it's needed most. These moments matter-and your campaign can be a light in the chaos. 7. Help with Summer Medical Expenses While many people are vacationing, others are battling unexpected surgeries, hospital bills, or long recovery periods. A summertime GiveSendGo campaign can rally support and give hope to families facing medical challenges during the warmer months. 8. Support a Summer Business or Creative Project Have a big dream that needs a boost? Whether you're launching a seasonal business, filming a faith-based short film, writing a book, or recording an album-summer can be the perfect time to raise funds and get the word out. Tell your story, build your audience, and invite people to be part of something inspiring. 9. Raise Money for Adoption or Foster Care Transitions New placements often happen over the summer-and they come fast. That means sudden needs: beds, clothes, diapers, formula, car seats, and more. GiveSendGo is a beautiful way to gather your village and provide for a child entering a new chapter. 10. Fund Home Cooling or Weather-Related Repairs Not everyone can afford to fix a broken AC unit or repair damage from a summer storm. Your campaign could help an elderly neighbor, a family with young kids, or a struggling single parent stay safe and cool this summer. Generosity doesn't take a break-and this summer, you can take it with you. Whether you're traveling, serving, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, use GiveSendGo to share hope and be a difference maker wherever you go.

The Stories of Our Fallen Heroes: A Memorial Day Tribute

Posted by Alex Shipley on May 23, 2025

Every year, on the last Monday in May, our nation takes a sacred pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States. Their sacrifices echo through generations, reminding us that the freedoms we enjoy are not free-they were paid for with lives marked by courage, conviction, and selflessness. Our fallen heroes are more than just names on a wall. They're sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends. Each one carried a story, a life filled with laughter, nicknames, quirks, quiet strength, and everyday moments that meant everything to someone. This day is about honoring not only how they died, but how they lived. This year, we asked the GiveSendGo community to help us remember. To share stories of their loved ones who gave everything-some on the battlefield, others in unseen battles long after they came home. Today, we tell their stories. We speak their names. And we honor their lives by remembering. Lance "Bo" Chavez "My big brother was always my hero. He always made sure as his little sister I felt proud of myself and protected. He took that a step further when he joined the USMC to give his time to his country. He always took pride in being a Marine and was lucky to be stationed in our home of Hawaii for part of his duties. He spread aloha to all who he met and made sure all around him knew how much he loved them. We now know that his smile was his way of hiding his pain. His laugh was his way to get through the days. In 2022, we lost my brother to his battle with PTSD. We now make it our mission as a family to spread his story and his aloha to those around us so that his memory lives on. We have established our nonprofit organization, the L;ve Aloha Foundation, to share his legacy and hope to help other veterans fighting with their mental health and their families. They all made the ultimate sacrifice for us, so we hope to just scrape the surface of returning that with our aloha. Happy Memorial Day to all our heroes here and in Heaven. HOORAHHH!" SFC Andrew Niles Crabtree, US Army "Andrew Crabtree was an Army Special Forces Medic assigned to a dive team in 5th Special Forces Group. Only two years after being assigned, he was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma. Although it was not the fight he signed up for, he fought it with faith and grace. He used his sickness as a platform to share the gospel with people around him. He wanted everything about the time he had left of his life to point to the hope of eternity with Jesus Christ." James Edward Marshall PFC "James was a great childhood friend of mine. We hung around and would play basketball and spent time playing pool. James and I would stop by his aunt's house at times to check on her as she was blind. He always checked to see if she needed anything from the store or help doing chores. James drove an ice cream truck and would stop by our home at least twice a week and give me some ice cream that was left over from work. I remember one night he stopped by and told me that he would not be stopping by anymore as he had been drafted into the Marines. I never saw James after that night. He was the brother that I always wanted, as my real brothers were much older. In 1968, I was told that James had been killed in action in Vietnam. I have never gotten over his death and still think of him all the time. I will never forget my dear friend James. His death inspired me to enlist into the Marine Corps in 1968 at 17 years old. I know the true meaning of Semper Fi. I will always remember." Capt. Robert Calvin Wiley, US Army "My great-grandfather was KIA in St. Lo, France, 14 Aug 1944, leading his Western PA National Guard unit into post-Normandy. Wounded by small arms and machine gun fire, he stayed in the fight and reorganized his men multiple times for a week until killed by sniper fire. Distinguished Service Cross. Purple Heart. He had been a high school teacher, football and wrestling coach in Greene County, PA." SSgt Scott Sather, USAF "Combat Controller. Killed by friendly fire 8 APR 2003." LtCol Peter Scott Hagis, USAF "I met Pete when we started at the Air Force Academy in 1987. He was a skinny kid from Philly who everybody could be friends with. We had the same sponsor in town and hung out there whenever we could get off base to relax and get away. Pete loved motorcycles, which were outlawed for cadets, but that didn't stop him from riding! After graduating in 1991, we went off to pilot training in Mississippi together. He was part owner of an old boat we took out to the river on the weekends. Pete loved to kneeboard. I remember launching him (and the boat) up off the wake of a small yacht that motored by, sending him 12-15 ft up off the water. Good thing he let go of the rope! After we crashed back down to the water and circled back to pick Pete up, he was laughing harder than I ever saw. He said the boat was so high up he could see the propeller spinning as the boat went flying! He went on to fly C-130 cargo planes all over the world and then flew special ops missions in small specialized aircraft in Iraq and other combat zones. He married a beautiful girl and had a son he named Killian. He wouldn't talk about anything he did or saw on those missions. Some of the things Pete was exposed to bothered him, but he never talked about it-even after he retired. We knew he was a great airman and hero-he earned a Bronze Star-but we still don't know the story. Pete retired as a Lt. Col. after a long, distinguished career, but ultimately he couldn't escape his memories. Basically, his life was cut short from PTSD. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. If there was one thing we would like to see come from Pete's interrupted life, it would be to encourage vets with PTSD to seek help-to talk to someone and not fight it alone. It's OK. No one goes into battle all alone, and that includes long after the smoke clears." Lt. Col. Robert "Maj" Renz, USAF "Robert Renz, better known to all as "Maj," was a devout Christian and a veteran of three wars with the USAF. His service started as a flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator in WWII. He became an officer and served in Korea and Vietnam-the latter where his exposure to the carcinogenic defoliant Agent Orange caused a stroke and brain tumor that led to service-related disability. He loved Jesus. His favorite dessert was strawberry shortcake. He was an American patriot and a true Texan." Ralph Edward Stronoski MSGT (Ret) "My great-uncle fought in the Battle of the Bulge to help liberate Europe during World War II." Thomas Richard Repko, US Navy "Our father was a true hero to spend 20 years of his life defending our country. He sacrificed a comfortable life at home to be at sea, protecting and defending our freedoms. He was loving, kind, humorous, and extremely giving. We honor him today and always, and thank God for his endurance, kindness, and love to us and many others." John Dunleavy, Pvt., US Army "KIA at Argonne Forest, France, WWI, a Pvt. USA, and was 18 years old. He was my uncle." Col. Harold W. Christian, USAF "Bomber Pilot, Test Pilot, Mercury Space Mission Candidate, Commandant, Aerospace Research Test Pilot School, Air Force Boeing Liaison." Frank Albert DePasquale, Sgt., US Army "My father served in World War II. He was 18 when he was sent to Germany. He fought in the Battle of the Remagen Bridge. This war experience changed his life. He told me that he prayed that if he got out alive, he'd promise to make the world a better place. And did he ever. He was an artist and architect (mid-century modern), designed multiple churches, homes, corporate and educational buildings, and museums. His art adorns spaces such as the IMAX theater here in Raleigh, NC, as well as banks, offices, and homes. He was actively involved in the community and served on many boards and committees. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. He truly lived the life he loved and made the world, and my life, more beautiful. I miss him every day!" Hal Eugene Weitenhagen, US Navy "Hal, my beloved brother, was a career US Navy man. He spent many years deployed at seas around the world. Following his return to civilian life, he suddenly died at age 49. He was buried at sea according to his wishes. Because his active duty service took him to Vietnam during that war, he was given a spot with a headstone in Arlington National Cemetery." Major Joseph Spencer, US Army "Twenty years a soldier. 91 years soldiered on." This Memorial Day, may we not only remember these precious names but live in a way that honors the freedom they died to protect. To the families who carry on-thank you. To the fallen-we remember you.

Honor Those Who Serve This Military Appreciation Month

Posted by Alex Shipley on May 22, 2025

Every May, during Military Appreciation Month, we pause as a nation to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. From active-duty service members standing guard around the world, to veterans who've returned home with stories etched into their hearts, and to the families who support them every step of the way-this month is for you. At GiveSendGo, we believe that honoring our military means more than just saying "thank you." It's about action-sharing their stories, lifting them up in prayer, and stepping in to meet the real needs that they and their families face. Behind every uniform is a human story. A mother who left her children to serve her country. A son who never made it home. A veteran battling unseen wounds. A spouse holding down the fort while their partner is deployed. These stories matter. Their lives matter. And this month, we remember them. Whether it's helping a veteran cover medical costs, supporting a military family in transition, or simply offering prayer for someone serving far from home-you can make a real and lasting impact. This Military Appreciation Month, here are two simple ways you can honor our heroes: Start a GiveSendGo or Give - Start a GiveSendGo or support a campaign that helps a veteran, active-duty service member, or their family. Whether it's meeting a financial need or simply reminding someone they're not alone, your generosity can be a light in a dark place. Pray - Visit GiveSendGo and lift up the campaigns dedicated to those who have served or are currently serving. Every campaign includes a "Pray Now" button where you can leave a message of prayer or encouragement. We believe that words matter-"Death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21)-and when we pray, we share hope with people in their most difficult or hopeless moments. Prayer changes things. Let's use our words to make a difference. However you choose to honor those who have served or are currently serving our country, remember this: freedom isn't free. It comes at a cost. And the brave men and women who defend it should never be forgotten.

Say YES to God!

Posted by Alex Shipley on May 13, 2025

At GiveSendGo, we talk a lot about sharing hope. But how do we-and you, for that matter-do that? It starts with something very simple: a yes. That small, faithful word has taken our co-founders, siblings Jacob Wells and Heather Wilson, on an adventure that has radically reshaped their lives-and each of their families' lives-time and time again. Those yeses led to GiveSendGo, and also into the difficult, yet incredible, world of foster care. Heather's Adventure Heather's journey into foster care began with a surprise! "Our youngest was 10 years old, and we found out we were pregnant again," she recalls. "Suddenly, we were faced with having to start our parenting journey all over again, and this time with a 10-year gap between our children. My husband and I started talking about what it would look like to fill that gap with a foster or adoptive child. We didn't know what to expect, but we felt God calling us. So, we said yes to God and we started the process of going through our local home study process." She laughs as she recalls the chaos of that very first call: "I got the phone call that said, 'Congratulations. You've been approved as foster parents. We have five siblings we need to emergency remove from their home. Can you take them?' And again, we said yes! Not to what our plan was, but to what God had for us in this season." The children were ages 10, 9, 8, 6, and 5. When Heather asked God to "fill the gap," she wasn't expecting Him to literally fill the gap. "It was the hardest two years of my life," she admits. "We were on a journey of learning to love like Jesus. During this time, we had so many people say to us, 'We could never take in kids like that.' But that's often a lie we tell ourselves when we want to avoid stepping into something hard. The only difference between my family and yours is not that we were more qualified or patient, it's just the fact we decided to say yes." Jacob's Adventure "Since 2017, my wife and I have been fostering children through DCF," he shares. "We've had our ups and our downs and our upside downs." They've fostered over 30 children, each with a different story and their own set of challenges and blessings. "It's been an incredible opportunity to invest in and sow into the lives of so many different children... to show children in the difficult moments that they are loved, that they're valuable, that they are worth sacrificing for-even if we didn't know them too well." Their home became a place where children felt safe-not a place without boundaries or discipline, but a place where they knew love in the midst of what they'd been through, were going through, and even despite themselves-because they're children of God. Image bearers. "Children will want to do the craziest things, dangerous things, and it's our role as parents to help shepherd and guide children into living fruitful lives that produce life... People are worth something apart from their ideas, apart from their ideologies... Inherently, as a human being, they're valuable." There were moments when no words could fix the pain-like when a child's biological parents passed away while in their care-but even in those hardest circumstances, Jacob and his wife remained faithful to share a greater hope: the hope of Jesus. "I don't know that words can often express all of the realities that we face... but I know that in the end, I'll never have regretted one moment of pouring my life out for other people like these foster kids." A Call for You to Say YES Too Foster care isn't just for a few brave families-it's a call to all of us to step in where there's need. As Heather put it: "Every day we see people on GiveSendGo seeing a need, stepping in, being the hands and feet. That's what I encourage you to do this Foster Care Month. All you have to do is say yes." And that yes can look like many different things: Maybe you're a foster family needing help with beds, clothes, or emergency supplies. Or maybe you know someone who is. Start a campaign on GiveSendGo. Maybe you're not in a season where you can foster-but you can still make a difference. Say yes by giving to and praying for foster families on GiveSendGo who are also saying yes every single day. Another way to share hope? Give to GiveSendGo Charities' Pro-Life Fund-which gives grants to people and families fundraising for foster care, adoption, and other pro-life needs. Say Yes to Adventure Say yes to the adventure God is calling you on Say yes to being the hands and feet. Say yes to sharing hope. Say yes to helping others answer God's call to love the least of these. Because courage isn't the feeling of strength, bravery, or confidence. Courage is choosing obedience to God, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. It's stepping out in faith, trusting that, because of God's past faithfulness, He is who He says He is-and that He will provide and be your strength on the adventures He's calling you to. As David says in 1 Samuel 17:47, "the battle belongs to the Lord." You never know what might happen when you just say yes.

Dear Mom...

It's no secret that moms often hold everything together. They're there with a listening ear, the best advice, the warmest meals, and a constant presence-no matter the time or place. That's why this Mother's Day, we wanted to do something special. We invited you to MOMinate the incredible moms and mom-figures in your life-the ones who go above and beyond every day-to receive a gift card just for them. Not for groceries. Not for school supplies. Not for the family. But something just for them. We're selecting one deserving mom from every state to receive this gift card as a small way to say thank you for all the ways they've given without ever asking for anything in return. We asked everyone nominiating just one question: Why does your mom or the mom-figure in your life deserve to win? And wow-your responses poured in. From sons, daughters, husbands, friends, and more. Each one overflowing with gratitude, admiration, and love for a woman who made a lasting impact. So today, we're celebrating all moms: The ones who raised us. The ones who prayed for us. The ones who sacrificed quietly. The ones who showed up when no one else did. Here's just a handful of the beautiful responses we received: "To call my mom extraordinary almost feels too small for the woman she truly is. As the mother of ten children-one son and nine daughters-she has devoted her life to creating a home overflowing with love, faith, laughter, and purpose. She is more than a mother-she is a legacy. A light. A living example of Christ's love in action." "Even with all she has going on mentally and physically, my mom throws herself into helping others. She does hair for elderly clients, even after they've passed, for their funerals. She volunteers, cooks for everyone, crafts wreaths and gingerbread mansions, and shows up with a smile-even though she lives with chronic pain every single day. So many people don't even realize how hard she has it. She rises above it all to love others anyway." "Heather is a mother, veteran, farmer, and rabbit show cheerleader. She raises miniature horses, builds fences, and still makes home-cooked meals flavored with herbs from her garden. She dresses up for Comic-Con with her son and works tirelessly with speech therapists for her daughter. Her life is a masterclass in love, resilience, and community." "Sara is literally the best mom. She is a single mom and always provides and supports her children in every they want and do. She also shows up and helps everyone around her. She has overcome seizures and sickness and injury. She has recently given her life to the Lord and I couldn't be more proud of her as my best friend." "For seven long years, she was the one who took care of everything for our family of three because my dad was disabled from work. That's a huge responsibility, and she never complained (well most of the time she didn't..lol). She's also an amazing school counselor and cross-country coach. All the kids at school love her; she treats them like they're her own...She's the best mom ever..." "My mom lost my older sister 4 years ago in June. Rather than let this break her, she's instead used this tragedy to renew and rebuild broken relationships with myself and my children. I look up to her in a way I never imagined possible before, I admire her dedication to never allowing the small things to get in the way of our love for one another and I feel loved and valued by her in a way I never have before. She's been through the fire and even now, as I face a recent health crisis that may very well be terminal, she's responded with courage and bravery that I'm able to lean on and find solace in." "She deserves a prize just for surviving my teenage years. She's part superhero, part stand-up comedian, and somehow always knows where everything is-even when I swear I already looked there." "At just 36 years old, Kayla was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she refused to let it define her. As a devoted wife and mother of two, she met the challenge head-on with unwavering strength and grace. Kayla is raising two remarkable children who are as bright as they are kind, ensuring they never miss a moment or opportunity. She's the heartbeat of her home - always making sure everyone is smiling, laughing, and well cared for. Even while facing her own battles, Kayla is the first to offer help to others." "She has stayed true to Jesus, despite things in life going way far astray. Her example of godliness in adversity is awesome!" "Shew. Where to start about my amazing mother!..Growing up, all of my friends always called her "momma" because she was as literally like a second mom to them and provided a home where they knew they would be safe and also be encouraged and loved...She has never wavered from her dedication of being a mother of nations, and I mean that in every sense. She has loved every child of every race, nationality, and background despite what society says about them. Those people labeled the "bad kids" she has always said are just "misunderstood" because she knows there is a reason why they are behaving that way. I can't put into words how much her love, support, encouragement, and her prayers have shaped, molded, and ultimately lead to me being the woman I am today and the mother I look forward to being. Thank you mom for everything (but thank you really isn't enough)" "She's 82 years young, and her favorite hobby is shopping and eating at Burger King. I love her WHOLE BUNCHES! I'm in Texas now, but we talk all the time on the phone and send each other cards and letters. She is my BEST FRIEND!" If you MOMinated someone, be sure to check out GiveSendGo's social media pages on Mother's Day to see if your nominee won! If your mom was selected, she'll be receiving an email with details on how to claim her prize. And to every mom reading this- Thank you. For the meals. For the prayers. For the late nights. For the early mornings. For the tears we never saw and the strength we never fully understood. Happy Mother's Day from all of us at GiveSendGo!

Every year, on the first Thursday of May, millions of believers across the U.S. unite in prayer for our nation, our leaders, our communities, and our families. It's called the National Day of Prayer, but here's the truth: What happens on Friday? Do we pray just as fervently and intentionally then? Most of us would probably say no. But what if this day sparked something daily in our hearts? What if prayer became a habit-not just a once-a-year moment? At GiveSendGo, we've seen the power of prayer firsthand. While many come to GiveSendGo seeking financial help, they often tell us that the most meaningful and comforting thing they received was prayer-whether it was a call from our Hope Team, a message left on their campaign page, or both! There's something powerful about knowing someone is lifting you up before God-even if they've never met you. Wouldn't you feel the same? So this May, we're inviting you to be that person. Join us for #PrayAllMay, our month-long May prayer challenge. Because prayer changes things. And God is eager to hear from you. "Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known." - Jeremiah 33:3 "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us." - 1 John 5:14-15 The #PrayAllMay Challenge For the next 4 weeks, pick one prayer focus per week-and go deep. Of course, you'll still pray for other things. But this gives you a simple roadmap to stay motivated and intentional with one area each week. Here's your weekly prayer guide: Week 1: Our Nation Let's lift up our country to the One who holds the world in His hands. Here are a few things you can pray for: Wisdom and integrity for national, state, and local leaders. That they would lead with justice, humility, and truth. Peace in our land-both within our communities and between nations. Revival-that people across the nation would encounter the love of Jesus and turn their hearts back to God. Unity across divides-racial, political, socioeconomic-that the Church would lead the way in showing what true reconciliation looks like. Protection and courage for those in the military, law enforcement, and first responders. Righteousness and truth to prevail in policies, laws, and decisions that impact our daily lives. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." - Psalm 33:12 Week 2: The Hurting We all know someone who's walking through something heavy. This week, we intentionally lift up those in pain. Here are a few things you can pray for: Healing for those facing sickness, injuries, or chronic illness. Comfort for those grieving a loss-whether it's a loved one, a job, a home, or a dream. Hope for the depressed, anxious, or hopeless. That they would feel seen, known, and loved. Provision for the financially struggling-that God would meet needs in miraculous ways. Strength for caregivers, single parents, and those who feel forgotten. Divine appointments-that people who are hurting would encounter someone who points them to Jesus. Tip: Scroll through campaigns on GiveSendGo and choose one person or family to pray for each day. You can even leave a prayer or note of encouragement by clicking the "Pray Now" button on their campaign page! "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18 Week 3: The Church The Church isn't a building-it's the people of God. This week, we pray for His Bride to rise up in truth, love, and boldness. Here are a few things you can pray for: Unity among believers. That we'd focus on what unites us-Jesus-rather than what divides us. Boldness to share the Gospel and stand for truth in love, even in a culture that's growing increasingly hostile to faith. Strength for pastors, missionaries, and ministry leaders who are weary or under attack. Revival in churches-that dry bones would come alive and lukewarm hearts would be set on fire for Christ. A deeper hunger for God's Word and obedience to live it out daily. Protection from compromise, gossip, division, and false teaching. "...that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word..." - Ephesians 5:26 Week 4: Your Circle This one is close to home. Who has God placed in your life right now? Your prayers matter in their lives more than you know. Here are a few things you can pray for: Salvation-that family members, friends, neighbors, or coworkers would come to know Jesus personally. Wisdom and discernment in decision-making-for yourself and those you love. Reconciliation in relationships where there's been hurt, distance, or brokenness. Peace in homes-that God would calm chaos, ease anxiety, and bring unity. Obedience to God's voice. That you (and others) would follow Him closely and trust Him completely. Clarity in calling and purpose. That your friends and family would walk in confidence and faith. Write down their names. Ask God what He wants to say to them-and how He might use you to share it. "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." - James 5:16 Why It Matters God wants us to come boldly before Him in prayer. Think about how we treat our closest friends-we spend time with them, call or text them, hang out, and stay connected. If we didn't, we wouldn't be great friends. That's how our relationship with God should be. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV) Prayer doesn't have to be complicated. It's not about having the perfect words-it's about showing up every day with faith and expectation. Want to Go Deeper? Here are a few ways to personalize your challenge: Start a prayer journal to track each week's focus and how God answers your prayers.(So often, we miss how God is working simply because we're not expecting it-or not looking for it. When we remember what He's done, it gives us faith to believe He's still at work today.) Choose a new GiveSendGo campaign each week to pray over-and leave an encouraging prayer or note by clicking "Pray Now." Invite a friend or family member to join you in the challenge and share updates. Set a daily prayer alarm to pause and remember the week's focus. Let's Pray Together This May, let's become a people known for bold, consistent prayer-not just on May 1st, but every day after. Tag us @GiveSendGo on social media with the hashtag #PrayAllMay to share what you're praying for this month-we'd love to feature you and join you in prayer!
