πŸŽƒ The Pumpkin Fund 2026 πŸŽƒ

Every fall, a roughly 30-foot-tall inflatable pumpkin rises over a front yard here in Tolland.

What started as a completely reasonable decision to purchase an absurdly enormous Halloween decoration has somehow grown into The Great Pumpkin and Friends, a community tradition that families, neighbors, and visitors look forward to every Halloween season.

People stop by for pictures, kids come to see the Pumpkin, neighbors follow its adventures online, and our Facebook community keeps tabs on whether the big guy is awake or β€œsleeping.”

We even have a live Pumpkin status system so you can check before making the trip. Because when Connecticut weather decides to throw 40-mph wind gusts at a 30-foot inflatable pumpkin, the Pumpkin occasionally needs a nap.

So, what exactly is the Pumpkin Fund?

The Pumpkin Fund exists for two reasons:

πŸŽƒ 1. Keep the Great Pumpkin alive

These inflatables unfortunately don't live forever.

Wind, weather, UV exposure, fabric fatigue, and the occasional catastrophic Pumpkin-related incident can eventually mean replacement is necessary.

If the Great Pumpkin suffers a major failure and needs to be replaced, money from the Pumpkin Fund can be used toward a direct replacement of the Pumpkin so the tradition can continue.

And yes, after what happened before, we're really hoping we don't have to use it for that.

πŸš’ 2. Give back to Tolland

Here's the part that makes the Pumpkin Fund special.

If the Great Pumpkin makes it through the season without needing replacement, the money doesn't just sit around waiting for something bad to happen.

Instead, it goes back into our community.

For 2026, the selected beneficiary is the Tolland Fire Department Explorer Post 40.

Explorer Post 40 gives young people in our community an opportunity to learn about the fire and emergency services, develop leadership and teamwork skills, train alongside members of the department, and get firsthand exposure to what it means to serve their community.

Today's Explorers can become tomorrow's firefighters, EMTs, and community leaders, and we'd love to use this ridiculous giant Pumpkin to help support them.

πŸ’° Where will my donation go?

It's simple:

If the Great Pumpkin suffers a catastrophic failure requiring replacement, Pumpkin Fund money may be used to replace it.

Anything not needed for replacement, including the entire fund if the Pumpkin survives the season, will be donated to Tolland Fire Department Explorer Post 40.

Depending on what happens this season, your donation may help do one or both.

We want to be completely transparent about that from the beginning.

🧑 More than just a giant Pumpkin

At the end of the day, this whole thing started because putting a gigantic inflatable Pumpkin in the yard was funny.

But somewhere along the way, it became something much bigger.

Kids recognize it. Families visit it. People check on it after storms. Neighbors share pictures of it. And every year, more people become part of the strange little tradition we've created together.

So the idea behind the Pumpkin Fund is pretty simple:

The community helps keep the Pumpkin alive, and the Pumpkin gives back to the community.

If you'd like to be part of it, consider making a donation of any amount and sharing the fundraiser with friends, family, and neighbors.

Then come visit the Great Pumpkin this Halloween.

πŸŽƒ Keep the Pumpkin standing. Help the next generation answer the call. πŸš’

Thank you for supporting The Great Pumpkin and Friends, Tolland Fire Department Explorer Post 40, and our little corner of Tolland.

See you out there. πŸŽƒ
