Memorial Hospital fundraiser

Project for the Construction of the Michael Aidan Courtney Health Center

The Apostolic Nunciature in Burundi has launched a project to build a health centre at the site where, on December 29, 2003, His Excellency Monsignor Michael Aidan Courtney, Apostolic Nuncio, was tragically assassinated. This site is located in Minago, Rumonge Province, Burundi. The initiative is being carried forward in collaboration with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Burundi and the entire local Church.

With the strong support of many Catholic faithful and their pastors, this project aims to:

• Provide families living in extreme poverty with access to essential health care;
• Transform the place of Monsignor Courtney’s assassination into a center of remembrance, reflection, and reconciliation — a space of comfort, solidarity, and fraternity, particularly for the people of Minago, who have suffered greatly from the conflicts that afflicted Burundi in past years;
• Significantly reduce, among other challenges, infant and maternal mortality rates in Minago.
