Mukluk Fire Recovery Effort

On August 17th, Tok, Alaska, experienced a devastating wildfire that quickly consumed over 40 homes and decades of hard work, lifetime collections, and personal possessions. Over 7,000 acres have been burned.

In total, 17 arctic tiny homes are either finished or still under construction. Many have already been built and delivered using materials originally slated for different church projects, donated materials from community members, local Alaskan businesses and emergency grant assistance secured by the Lions Club and others.

The Red Cross and Alaska Emergency Services are helping with heating options for these homes, but there are so many needs outstanding, covering all aspects of home completion, insulation, appliance installation, foundations, placement and more.

3 of the arctic tiny homes will be built in the Alaska Gateway School District - Career and Technical Education program shop, lead by a dedicated teacher who lost his own home in the fire.

Winter is coming quickly, and the Arctic tiny home effort is primarily completed, going on since the very week of the fire. Dozens of volunteers from numerous churches between Tok and Delta have been instrumental in starting and maintaining this effort. National Guard and Team Rubicon volunteers pitched in, as have many other amazing volunteers. It's a slug, and it's time and energy away from families, jobs, and other pressing issues. They need our continued help and support.

While some families have moved into rentals and temporary shelters, they have each lost so much, from personal records to belongings to mechanical, fishing, and hunting equipment. As winter comes, there are even more needs that we don't think about in warm temperatures.

The full history of this fire can be found on Facebook at The Mukluk Fire. Please take a look at where we started and how far we have come.

We are grateful for anything you can offer to help keep this project and the fire recovery moving forward.

All proceeds from this fundraiser go, in full, to the Chapel of the North and their Cornerstone Youth Center for further community distribution, given their role in supporting all fire victims' full fire recovery event.

Thank you for your support!
