Help Roxy provide care for Pat

This fundraiser is to help Pat and Roxanna Kemppainen.

Roxanna is Pat’s wife of 22 years, and they have a son together who recently graduated from high school and will start college soon.

Pat has Early Onset Alzheimer’s/Dementia and currently lives in a memory care home. Pat was diagnosed with EOAD at the young age of 54, when their son was just 9 years old. He’s been living in a dedicated memory care home for 5 years now. The care he receives there is exemplary, and important for Pat’s well being.

Unfortunately, the company that helps cover most of Pat’s expenses for the home, and then charges Roxanna a percentage each month, has once again increased the amount she is responsible for paying. Roxanna also currently has a large outstanding balance for Pat’s memory care, in addition to the ongoing monthly expenses.

Pat will face eviction from the memory care home if the amount Roxanna is responsible for each month is not paid in full. This is an incredibly complicated and difficult situation. Pat is in the end stages of his disease, but he is not actively passing away at this time. He is considered “stable,” and because of that stability, he has also been dismissed from hospice care. This has complicated things even further.

Along with the increasing financial responsibility for Pat’s care, there are also the ongoing costs of his medical supplies, including adult briefs, wipes, a specialized shower chair, and a specialized wheelchair, just to name a few. There are also future expenses associated with end-of-life arrangements and funeral services when that time eventually comes, which is an additional financial concern for Roxanna during an already incredibly difficult time.

Roxanna works full-time, has a son who has just started college, and still has all of the everyday expenses that come with supporting a household. She is essentially carrying the responsibilities of a single parent while also facing significant medical and memory care expenses for her husband every month.

To ensure that Pat can remain in a safe environment where he receives the specialized care he needs, Roxanna must keep up with the increasing costs of his care. Moving Pat to a new facility that does not specialize in dementia or Alzheimer’s could be extremely detrimental to his health. He is safe and secure where he is, has an established routine, and at this stage of his Early Onset Alzheimer’s, a major move could cause significant stress and potentially lead to a rapid decline in his condition.

Roxanna would never think to start a fundraiser for herself because she doesn’t want to put anyone out or feel like she is asking too much. So, I am asking on her behalf.

Please help relieve some of this burden by giving whatever you can to this fundraiser for the Kemppainens. Every contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would also mean so much to their family.
