Help Maria Get the Orthosis She Needs to Walk

Our daughter Maria is 7 years old and lives with right-sided hemiparesis, a condition that affects the movement and strength of the right side of her body.

Simple activities that most children do without thinking, such as walking, running, climbing stairs, keeping balance, or using both hands, require much more effort for Maria. Every new skill is the result of years of therapy, rehabilitation, and determination.

Despite these challenges, Maria never gives up. She attends regular rehabilitation and works hard during every therapy session. Thanks to her perseverance and professional support, she continues to make progress, but she still needs specialized equipment to help her move more safely and independently.

Our current goal is to purchase a custom AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) designed specifically for Maria's needs. The orthosis will help improve her walking pattern, provide better stability, support proper positioning of her foot and ankle, and reduce the risk of developing further musculoskeletal problems. It will also help her participate more actively in everyday activities and gain greater independence. The recommended device is an AFO/DAFO orthosis supplied by Otto Bock Polska.

The total cost of the orthosis is 8,420 PLN, with an expected reimbursement of 3,000 PLN from the National Health Fund (NFZ). The remaining amount that our family must cover is 5,420 PLN.

As parents, we do everything we can to provide Maria with the treatment and support she needs. However, the cost of ongoing rehabilitation, medical appointments, and specialized equipment places a significant burden on our family budget.
