Help Dominic and Maggie!

On Sunday, September 27th, Dominic was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and was very seriously burned at a backyard bonfire.

He received 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 25% of his body (abdomen and both legs - thankfully not his face or arms). He was taken to Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton and then airlifted to the VCU Burn Unit in Richmond, where he was admitted to the ICU.

He had skin graft surgery on Thursday, Oct. 1st (with the possibility of a second one needed). The medical staff has told the family to be prepared for him to remain in the hospital for about four weeks from his arrival, depending on how the graft takes.

Overall is he doing well! Vitals and organs all seem to be just fine, but it will be a long road to recovery. After the hospital stay there will still be ongoing therapy and wound care. The good news is once he is fully healed, he isn't expected to have any lasting limitations. It's just going to take time.

Dominic is handling is all really well. He's been strong and patient, and the way he's dealt with everything has been something to see. Maggie has been right there with him and has been an amazing caretaker. This is a lot for two people so early in their marriage, but they are handling it well.

They do have health insurance. The problem is we do not yet know what it will cover or how high the bills will be. A helicopter ride, the ICU, surgery, and a month in the hospital add up very quickly. Then there is the cost of meals, gas back and forth to the hospital in Richmond and everything else that comes with it.

Please pray for Dominic and his new wife (as of May) Maggie, as they navigate this difficult time. Please pray as well for the peace and consolation of the family, some of whom were there and are still shaken by what they saw.
