Help Jamaica Rise Again After Hurricane Melissa

My name is Emmanuel McMungiria. I am the owner of D.E Africa, Inc. I am raising funds to send urgent help to Jamaica to provide humanitarian relief for those affected by Hurricane Melissa, especially in the hardest-hit regions of St. Elizabeth, Santa Cruz, and Black River.. Most residents in these mountains are small scale farmers and otherwise highly dependent on harmony with the land.

Most residents lost entire houses, roofs or experienced other significant damage. In addition, most residents are farmers who rely on crop harvests and livestock for their likelihoods, which are severely damaged or completely destroyed by Hurricane Melissa, thereby creating compound problems in the present, and future from lost earnings. Like many residents in rural Jamaica, there is no home insurance or other assistance to repair/replace homes and belongings. Post hurricane - still no electricity/service, and almost all fruit trees, farm produce, crops and livestock are destroyed or severely damaged leading to lost earnings, livelihoods, homes and other belongings.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, many communities have a long road to recovery. This fundraiser will provide additional assistance to purchase:

food items (canned foods, rice, flour etc.),

hygiene products (menstrual hygiene products, baby products, first aid kits, soap),

water filters

and other essentials (toilet paper, tarpaulin, tents, mosquito repellant, rechargeable solar lanterns and charging station, school supplies, tarps, etc.)

Depending on amount of donations received, we will provide rebuilding supplies or small cash amounts to help community members rebuild their homes and lives.

Thank you for considering this island home during such a devastating and overwhelming time. Bird Mountain and Welcome have some of the kindest, hardworking and resilient people. All funds will be used for buying and delivering these supplies. We will keep consistent accountability and transparency by adding frequent updates, photos and videos.
