Help me to Protect and Care for My Dad Through His Advanced Dementia

As a daughter, I never imagined I would be in a position where I would have to fight for my father’s well-being. My dad has always been the one who took care of us—the provider, mentor, and leader of our family. Now, as he faces advanced dementia, it is my turn to step up and care for the man who spent his life caring for us.

My dad is now in his sixth year of this devastating disease. As his dementia has progressed, he has reached a point where he can no longer safely make any important decisions for himself and requires constant supervision and care.

Our family’s greatest hope is to keep Dad in his own home for as long as we safely can, surrounded by the familiar things and memories of the life he built.

To make that possible, I made the difficult decision to leave my truck-driving career and become his full-time caregiver. I have been using my own savings to support myself while caring for him, but those savings have now run out.

I am asking for help because I need to take the legal steps necessary to protect my dad. This includes addressing an existing Power of Attorney and pursuing legal guardianship so that I can properly advocate for him, manage necessary financial matters, help make medical and care decisions, and ensure that his needs and best interests are protected.

I am the oldest of five adopted children. Dad chose to be our father, provided for us, guided us, and helped shape the people we became. I will never be able to repay him for everything he has done, but I can be there for him now when he needs someone to stand beside him.

The funds raised will help with the legal expenses involved in pursuing guardianship and protecting Dad’s interests, as well as some of the ongoing costs associated with caring for him at home. There are also necessary repairs to his home that need attention, including a roof leak that is causing problems in the kitchen. My goal isn’t to make things perfect—it’s to make sure Dad has a safe, comfortable, dignified place to live.

Asking for help isn’t easy for me, but I cannot do this alone anymore.
