Fight Like Mike against Ewing Sarcoma

Michael was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing sarcoma in early 2024 while serving in the Navy. He has been fighting incredibly hard ever since.

After enduring intensive chemotherapy, Michael experienced his first relapse in 2025 when the cancer spread to his brain. He continued fighting through more treatment, and for nearly a year, we were incredibly grateful to have stable, minimal disease.

Unfortunately, we recently learned that Michael’s cancer has relapsed again, and this time, it has come back with an aggressiveness we could have never imagined.

In late August, Michael underwent his first spinal surgery after a tumor was discovered compressing his spinal cord. His neurosurgeons were shocked that, given the amount of compression, he wasn’t already experiencing paralysis.

Just 19 days later, Michael required a second spinal surgery after the tumor had already grown back, along with additional tumor growth, causing severe spinal cord compression and significant loss of function in his legs.

What we hoped would be a step toward recovery quickly turned into another devastating setback.

Since his second surgery, Michael has spent the past two weeks in inpatient neurological rehabilitation, working incredibly hard to regain his strength, mobility, and independence. He is now having to relearn things most of us take for granted, including how to walk.

Heartbreakingly, we have recently learned that despite undergoing two spinal surgeries in less than three weeks, the cancer has already begun growing back in the same area once again.

Michael is now preparing to begin radiation therapy in hopes of controlling the tumor growth and preventing further damage to his spinal cord. With how quickly this cancer has continued to progress, time has become incredibly important.

We have also learned that the cancer has spread to multiple areas throughout his body, making surgery or radiation to every tumor impossible. Testing has identified aggressive mutations within Michael’s Ewing sarcoma, and we are continuing to pursue additional molecular tumor DNA testing in hopes of identifying potential treatment targets.

At this point, our standard treatment options have become extremely limited. We are exploring clinical trials and any other medically appropriate options Michael may qualify for.

But we are not ready to give up.

Michael wants to fight, and as long as he wants to keep fighting, I am going to do everything I can to help him.

For the past two years, I have spent countless hours researching integrative and supportive approaches alongside Michael’s conventional cancer treatment. Now that our standard options are becoming so limited, we want the opportunity to explore additional integrative treatment options, specialists, second opinions, and other avenues that could potentially help Michael while continuing to work with his medical team.

Unfortunately, many of these options are not covered by insurance and can become incredibly expensive very quickly.

Funds raised will help Michael and our family pursue medical, integrative, and supportive treatment options, including specialist consultations, second opinions, clinical-trial-related expenses, travel and lodging for treatment, and treatments or supportive care that may not be covered by insurance.

Michael is only 31 years old. He is a Navy veteran, a husband, and most importantly, a dad to our 5-year-old daughter. He has fought unbelievably hard for more than two and a half years, enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, brain metastases, and now two spinal surgeries that have left him fighting not only for his life but also to regain his ability to walk.

Through everything, Michael continues to show an incredible amount of strength and determination. Even when this cancer knocks him down, he continues to fight to get back up.

We don’t know exactly what the road ahead will look like, but we do know that we aren’t ready to stop looking for options.

Every donation, share, prayer, and message of support means more to our family than we could ever adequately express.

Thank you for helping us continue to fight alongside Michael. ♥️♥️
