The Yenca family has found themselves in an unexpected and devastating journey that began when Darren fell seriously ill. What started as difficulty in eating spiraled into a nightmare as he suffered with sepsis and other issues just before Christmas. Since that day, the hospital has become his home.

Darren has been facing multiple severe health challenges, including the critical effects of sepsis, cardiac arrest (3 shots of Epi and 3 defibrillator shocks brought him back), Wernicke's encephalopathy from nutritional deficiencies, and numerous other complications such as diabetes and congestive heart failure. He is currently on a ventilator and feeding tube, fighting to regain control over his body while unable to respond to commands. Though at the time of this post, he shows signs of awareness by tracking loved ones with his eyes, the road to recovery will be a long and arduous one.

During this unimaginable time, the burden of providing for their family of 6 has fallen solely on Beth, as Darren obviously cannot work. 

The challenges mount: they are struggling with household bills, transportation costs, groceries, and the medical expenses for their newly adopted dog, Shakira "Kiki," who is also battling heartworms. 

Beth's attempts to secure short-term disability through Darren’s employer have been met with barriers due to needing a healthcare provider that can complete this, leaving them in a precarious financial situation.

In this time of uncertainty, they need our help more than ever.
