Hello friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. We are excited to share with you God's new assignment for our lives. He has called us to serve as volunteers with Watoto Child Care Ministries in Uganda. We are traveling to Uganda to minister to orphan children during a four-month period beginning in July 2019.
For those of you unfamiliar with Watoto Ministries, and who haven't heard our stories yet, we were introduced to Watoto in April 2018. We had the extraordinary blessing to serve as a host family for children from Watoto Children's Choir #91 that toured the Midwest states. We were overwhelmed by their genuine love for Jesus and their sincerity as messengers of the Gospel.
We have become passionate about Watoto, whose mission is to rescue and raise these beautiful orphan children to be the future Christian leaders of Uganda. Watoto does this by providing healing and hope through home-based Christian communities for these children. Many of them are without parents because of the ravages of disease, poverty, war, or abandonment. Most of the children have been rescued at an early age, even as babies abandoned at birth or toddlers left in ditches.
The children are cared for in villages, where they live in group homes with a housemother who is usually a widow. Each village has a school, health clinic, and church to provide for the educational, medical, and spiritual needs of each child. In addition, Watoto further reaches out to vulnerable and hurting women and their children in surrounding neighborhoods by providing food, education, vocational training, medical care, and a spiritual foundation.
During our time in Uganda, we are volunteering to work with the children and "mums" on Christian discipleship and mentoring programs, leadership training, and personal life skills. The desire of our heart is to share the Word of God and the compassion of Christ with these precious boys and girls and women--to encourage them and help them discover their unique dignity and purpose as children of God.
We are seeking support to cover some of the costs of this extended trip. Expenses include lodging, meals, international airfare, local transportation, multiple vaccinations, and travel health insurance. It would be a tremendous blessing if you are able to partner with us in this amazing opportunity. Watoto says it well: "We are a family of people from all over the world who are working together to ensure that the forgotten have a place to belong."
