Hi all! I wanted to create a fundraiser to help my great niece Jehieli and her mom (my niece) Kelsy obtain vital medical equipment needed for a safe and healthy recovery following her surgery next month. I have been asked by many friends and our shared church family at StoneBridge how they can help. First and foremost any and all prayers would be greatly appreciated 🙌

Jehieli has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which is a rare genetic neuromuscular disease that causes trouble walking, standing, swallowing and breathing. It is a muscle wasting disease and results in multiple complications. Jehieli has been in a power wheelchair her whole life and has never walked. Due to this disease, she has developed severe scoliosis and will be having a Complete Spinal Fusion surgery on June 4th. This surgery will unfortunately cause a huge change in her physical function and a big adjustment for her mom and caregivers at home. Jehieli will need a fully electric adjustable bed after surgery as well as long term as she won’t be able to adjust her position on her own anymore. This bed will also elevate up and down to make dressing/changing easier for her mom and caregivers. This type of specific bed was unfortunately denied by insurance as they will not cover fully electric beds and will not cover the hi-lo function for the “convenience of the caregiver.” She also won’t be able to be lifted/carried anymore for transfers and she is just too heavy now so she is needing a lift. Insurance will approve a hoyer lift, however, Jehieli lives in an inaccessible apartment that is not big enough for a hoyer. Instead, there’s an alternative option called a “Patient Lift Transfer Chair” that is smaller and compatible with limited space to be able to move her from her bed to her wheelchair/toilet etc. This transfer chair is also not approved by her insurance as they will only cover a hoyer lift. These pieces of equipment would make Jehieli’s recovery and life so much easier and we are so grateful and blessed for any and all help but also could use lots of prayers for this upcoming surgery.
