This August, I'm going to be moving to Philadelphia to do a year of homeless ministry with Christ in the City.

I'm incredibly excited to participate in this mission! A lack of human connection is one of the greatest poverties facing our bothers and sisters on the streets. As a missionary with Christ in the City, I will be going out to the streets of Philadelphia, encountering people, and building bonds of lasting charity.

This is a mission that I have admired for years. I want to be a missionary because I firmly believe that we all have a thirst for deeper connection and that the heart of this ministry extends beyond people whose poverty is clearly visible.

Christ in the City approaches homeless ministry with humility and authenticity. As a missionary, I will be living in a retired convent with other service members (the exact number varies year-to-year, but is typically 16). Food for the year is donated surplus from local grocery stores, much like at a homeless shelter. As a result, the majority of your contribution goes directly to resources for the homeless. The funds are utilized to celebrate birthdays, assist with move-in once housing is acquired, and host weekly lunches. These all serve as means by which to remind people experiencing homelessness of their human dignity.

The total I have to raise is $14,000. While a sizable number, it is with many hands that work is made light.
