Last Thursday evening (July 20) our dear brother Sean Cavender tragically lost his life in a car accident in Athens, Alabama after hearing the last lecture of the 2023 Truth Lectures. Sean delivered a powerful message on the Kingdom of God that very morning. Sadly, Sean was struck by a truck that ran a red light and passed from this life quickly. Brethren that were outside of Athens Bible School rushed to Sean, but he was already gone.

I have known Sean since he was a small boy. He had a strong desire to preach the gospel and to serve God's people. He attended where I preach at the Hwy. 65 church of Christ in Conway throughout his college years. His wife Kristin and two precious sons (Zeke, 4 and Xander, 8) will miss him greatly as a loving husband and father. Even during the lectures Sean bought bibles for his boys with their names engraved on the cover. To know Sean was to love him. He was committed to the truth, proclaimed the gospel in powerful purity, and loved His brothers and sisters in Christ. We will miss his big smile, gracious spirit, and generous encouragement. We will greatly miss our dear brother. On a personal level, I will miss our conversations about the Scriptures, his support and strength, and His grace and kindness.

As many of you know, the loss of Sean as a husband and father is not only tragic from an emotional standpoint as a family, but it is also very challenging from a financial perspective as well. Both the cost of his burial and funeral, and moving forward as a family will require help from brethren in Christ. Good brothers are arranging for a way of taking advantage of this opportunity to help this family financially who has undergone such loss. The spirit of Christ among His people is an amazing blessing even in times of anguish and pain.

In the Love of Christ,

Bruce Reeves

From Kristin's Facebook post:

I want so desperately to tell everyone how much I appreciate the prayers, shared memories, and donations we’ve received. I’ve tried many times to put it into words, but then reality hits and I spiral again. I don’t know how to sincerely express my gratitude enough. I will never be able to thank each of you, but I see you and I do so greatly appreciate everything that is being done on our behalf.

Sean was my rock. He kept me grounded (even though every move we made was his idea 😛), but he was my home. He was our boys’ hero. Their day got better when Daddy got home.

This has been an absolute nightmare. I felt completely alone and overwhelmed on Thursday night. While I am still overwhelmed with grief, I have been shown first hand that I am not alone. Sean loved his work because he loved the Lord’s people. We are truly blessed beyond measure. ❤️
