On Wednesday, February 18th 2026, Sara Short started having lower back pain that ramped up until the night of the 21st, when she went in to the ER due to the severity of the pain. They performed a CT scan of her abdomen and found a large mass on her left kidney. On Thursday the 26th, she saw a specialist who told her based on the ER scan, he was 95% sure it was malignant cancer (renal cell carcinoma). He said based on it's size (about the size of a rice krispy treat) the kidney will most likely not be able to be saved, and ordered more CT scans in order to confirm all of this and see if it had metastasized. On Feb 28th, Sara went in for chest and abdominal scans, and then on March 12th the doctor went over the results with her. He said he does not believe it has metastasized (praise the Lord!), although there is some concern regarding a lymph node that was enlarged. He was not able to confirm what the mass is (although he still believes it is malignant). He said it is very abnormal and he hasn't seen anything quite like it. He is hopeful that he can remove it along with the kidney and be done with it. Her surgery to remove the mass and the kidney is scheduled for June 12th. Sara has been sticking to a low carb diet in-between fasting since February in hopes of keeping the cancer from growing or metastasizing.

I have created this page to help her with her finances as she deals with this and work lost due to it. I will also keep the information updated for everyone so they know how to pray for her.

As a side note which has been very encouraging to Sara, she has not had any pain since she left the ER. She fully believes that the pain was unrelated to the cancer, and God was using it to bring her in for a scan that night.
