No person should be sold or traded as a piece of property. No person should be exploited by the sex work or pornography industries, or otherwise, especially in areas of economic destitution. As for human trafficking, in God's word it is written, “Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.” (Exodus 21:16, ESV). Then, in terms of exploitation, it is written: “Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.” (Proverbs 22:16, ESV) Clearly, the Lord does not approve of these heinous crimes against humanity. The “9 Months In Romania” Research Project seeks to explore the root causes of such atrocities in Romania, which is known as the “human trafficking gateway of Europe,” so that NGO's and government agencies can better combat these issues worldwide. The Eastern European region, particularly Romania, is, unfortunately, an ideal region of the world in which to do this sort of research.
M.Div. candidate, Jared A. Snyder, in cooperation with The Zoe's Publishing Foundation, Regent University, and an undisclosed organization in Romania (undisclosed for the sake of integrity, ethical research, and safety) will be working on this project in order to better understand modern, often overlooked, forms of human trafficking and exploitation, especially sexual exploitation. This research project will be conducted in two major metropolitan areas within Romania. During the project, there will be opportunities to help liberate young women who're being trafficked and/or exploited and to witness God's grace to these downcast women. As you might guess, this is a big and important project (and missions trip).
As the name suggests, the duration of the project will be 9 months long. The budget for this project includes research supplies, physical space to conduct research from, stipends for research participants, and stipends for certain research team members (those who'll be working on location in Romania). It also includes living and travel expenses for Jared for the full 9-month period. Finally, the budget will compensate Mr. Snyder for project expenses he is covering up to the start of the 9-month period of the project.
Human trafficking and exploitation are running rampant throughout Romania and Eastern Europe and must be combated in big ways. Just as important, the people in this region need to know the Lord and the immense ways that he loves them and desires to have a relationship with all of them. This project/mission trip will address both of these points, and you can be part of it through your prayers and financial contributions. And though it shouldn't be a major factor, if you care, your contributions are tax-deductible.
Thank you and God bless you!
In His service,
The “9 Months In Romania“ Team
