Melissa’s Miracle Heart – Latest Update (April 2026)

Many of you have followed Melissa’s journey and know how Gabe & Melissa have touched thousands with their love and generosity. Now they need our support.

For eleven years Melissa battled heart failure, likely due to childhood chemotherapy. Last year brought hope of full recovery, but illness struck in November 2024 —months of coughing, two cases of pneumonia, and weeks of insomnia—leading to her July 23rd admission to the CVICU once it was discovered that she was again in full heart failure.

After seven weeks of multiple heart surgeries, life support, and medical miracles, she received a new heart on September 12th, 2025.

Following transplant, Melissa endured far more than anyone imagined: lung issues, loss of kidney function, and much more. Her case has been extremely serious and one of the most complicated their transplant center has ever seen.

After 254 consecutive days of living in a hospital bed, Melissa was finally discharged on April 2, 2026 and is recovering at home with her family, where she is working on rehabilitation.

She still requires dialysis three times a week, is beginning cardiac rehab 3 days a week, and has frequent trips back to Dallas for follow-ups. Gabriel has stayed by her side the entire time as her constant caregiver.

Their home is 90 minutes from the hospital, so ongoing needs include round-the-clock care, weekly travel, dialysis, continued rehab, anti-rejection drugs, and family expenses.

We’re still pursuing our $50,000 goal to help ease these burdens so they can focus on healing.
