On Friday, February 27th, at 2:15 pm, I received a text from my husband that no one ever wants to see. “House is on fire; pray”

Then the next text I got from him said, “All gone”.

I got there as quickly as I could; but nearly everything had already burned to the ground by the time that I arrived. My husband had gotten our dogs out of the house, but was unable to get our 2 cats out. We had an enclosed front porch, and all my breeding groups of quail were in enclosures there as were my favorite Serama hen, and her 4 babies. They were lost as well.

Thankfully, there were no human casualties or injuries. When Chris went inside for the last dog; he nearly collapsed due to smoke inhalation. He tried holding his breath, but it took longer than he anticipated to get her out because she was so scared, and he had to take a breath while inside. We came out of it with each other, and the clothes on our back. The hardest things to loose were our pets, and those things that can’t be replaced… photos and videos of our wedding, of our children being born and growing up, the memorabilia that we treasured from our grandparents and other loved ones who had gone on before us.
