Jeremy Blasdel has been fighting in the hospital for the last two weeks. He has been diagnosed with West Nile Virus which attacked his central nervous system.  This is forcing him to learn the basics of everyday living again.  The simple tasks of walking, brushing his teeth, holding a phone or just using his right arm and hands are continuing to be a challenge.  Jeremy is in agonizing pain and Doctors are confident they can manage this pain to allow him to switch to a Rehabilitation Hospital in Billings Montana to start retraining his body.  This ugly virus has taken a toll on not only Jeremy but his family.  Kim (Jeremy's Wife) has been by his side from day one.  Jeremy's Mom has traveled from Washington to take care of their 3 children traveling back and forth to Glendive Montana and back to Billings Montana.  The kids have started school and Kim will have to travel back and forth from Glendive to Billings which is approx 2 hours by car and has additional hotel and food costs.  This has been hard on Jeremy and his family and we have received many people's interest in helping Jeremy and Kim during this challenging time.

Jeremy has started physical therapy twice a day. Progress is slow, but the medical team is trying to get him into another rehabilitation facility that will specialize in his pt more. His pain is still fluctuating at night, so they are trying to adjust his meds to help. Just today alone, Jeremy received 3 cards here at the hospital from community members with words of encouragement and prayers. This has been great support, and he wants to make sure everyone knows how much their encouragement means to him. Faith of a mustard feed can move mountains 🙏🏼♥️

Update on Jeremy Blasdel

Every morning on my way to work I call Kim to get an update on how my brothers night went and again in the early evening to see if we have any updates from the Doctor. This morning she didn’t call me back and Kim knows I am persistent when I want something. She finally called me back right around my lunch time and I had no idea I was on speaker and I asked her the same question as I always do. How was Jeremy’s night? How is he doing today? Well she started to answer and Jeremy took over the conversation. Completely surprised me but man was I in for one feisty conversation. He gave me his wish list of what I need to bring him when I go to Billings this weekend. Ready for this? Sugar Dot Sweet Corn, 50 pound back of Walla Walla Sweet Onions, A big bag of Wintergreen Breath Mints from Costco, Dad’s Freeze Dried Skittles, and some smaller shorts because the Nurse had to hold up his shorts while he did his physical therapy today because they were to big. I was like “Oh are we feeling better?” He said yes! They gave him his first dose of Steroids last night and this has helped his lungs tremendously. He could speak but his speech is slightly slurred. He is still managing his pain with pain meds, and does not have movement in his right arm/shoulder. He not only walked but went up some stairs with the nurses as his shorts were falling off. The Doctor did come and speak to him regarding changing to a Long Term hospital instead of a rehabilitation this way Jeremy can get all of his needs met for a speedy recovery. He is in good spirits and progressing in the right direction. He does have a long road to recovery but we have the confidence and faith he will continue on his road to recovery one day at a time. He does look at Facebook and is overwhelmed with the love and support everyone has shown him and our family. Thank you from the bottom of our heart. Please continue to pray for Jeremy’s recovery.  God Bless!

Update #2

Jeremy was seen by a pulmonologist today who gave some troubling news. He advised that if Jeremy was his loved one and he had to have his lungs suctioned again that he would suggest a tracheostomy. Otherwise, he would be at risk of needing to be put on a ventilator. He has treatment with the precussive device 4 times a day in hopes of helping his chest and lungs. The virus started to attack his facial nerves, which we were advised at the beginning is something West Nile likes to do. It is hard for him to close his mouth all the way, which makes drinking hard. His right eye sometimes doesn't close all the way. They are going to attempt 3 days of strong and heavy steroids. They weighed him today, and in the last 14 days, he has dropped 30 pounds.

Jeremy and his family want everyone to know how much they appreciate the amount of support and prayers he is getting. He has made some improvements with walking on his own without any assistance but has also had some pitfalls. One is his lungs. His chest muscles are not strong enough to clear his lungs of any flem that is accumulating. At this time he does not have pneumonia and the hospital is trying to prevent that. The pain in his shoulder has decreased but the pain in his neck and back are still there. Due to his lungs the move to the rehabilitation facility has been put on hold. Once his lungs are better he should be able to move forward.
