I bought a 2019 Kia in August of 2025 on a fixed income to replace my van that was too old to drive for Uber, and I needed another income. I figured taking on the new debt would be paid for with the income from driving for Uber in addition to my SSI, as well as catch up on and maintain past due bills. In January of 2026, I started having engine problems with the Kia, and the dealer refused to honor my warranty because they said I exceeded the terms of the limited warranty. I didn’t have enough money for the engine repairs, so I rented a car under Uber’s driver rental program at the end of February when I received my SSI. I drove the Uber for several weeks until the inspection for the rental was approaching in March so I had to return it. They didn’t have another available rental at that time because the Uber rental program is first come first served, so I was put on the waiting list for another rental. On April, 8 Hertz charged my account with $1,200 in damage cost for a small ding on the rear quarter panel that I didn’t cause or notice. It must have happened in a shopping center parking lot when I went in for groceries, or somewhere that I was parked. The $1200 paid out of my account took my entire SSI direct deposit payment for the month of April, leaving me a negative balance, and no way to pay my bills which included my car payment, and insurance. I’m now looking at having to make two car payments with my May SSI money as well as insurance, and I still won’t have money to fix the car so I can start back driving Uber so I can pay my other bills. As it stands now I’m living out of my car, so catching up the car payments, and insurance is a must even though I can’t drive the car until it’s fixed. I really don’t know how I’m going to feed myself in the next several weeks because I’m just about out of the food that I bought to carry me, and I have no money. My entire SSI payment for May will be paid out to make my car payments so I have a place to sleep in the car. I really don’t have anywhere else to turn, and would gladly repay anyone who can help me, after I can get my car fixed, and start back driving Uber to get caught up. Thanks for any help
