I Don't Know Which Emergency to Face First

When You're the One Everyone Depends On, Who Do You Turn To?

This is one of the hardest things I've ever written.

Last year, I lost my mother. While I'm still trying to process that loss, I haven't even been able to bring home her ashes because I couldn't afford the final expenses. Every day that passes feels like another day I've failed to give her the peace and dignity she deserves. Just a few months after losing my mom, another nightmare struck my family.

My daughter was hit by a car and had to be airlifted to the hospital. As a parent, there are no words for the fear of getting that phone call and not knowing if your child is going to survive but it's another indescribable emotion and feeling when you hear and watch it happen right in front of you. She suffered multiple fractures to her hip and thigh, as well as fractures to her spine and sacrum. Watching my child endure that pain, the hospital stays, the recovery, and the uncertainty broke something inside me that I'm still trying to put back together.

Since then, it feels like life hasn't stopped throwing punches. I am a mother with children who depend on me. I have pets that rely on me. I am also helping care for my disabled sister, who recently suffered a heart attack, underwent surgery, and was then diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Watching someone you love fight for their life while you're struggling to keep your own household together is a kind of heartbreak I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Right now, we are without power because I've fallen behind on the utility bill. The Florida heat is unforgiving, and every day I worry about keeping my family safe while trying to find a way through all of this. I've never been someone who expected others to carry me. I've always worked. I've always found a way. I was working hard, making payments toward a vehicle through deductions from my paycheck, believing I was finally building some stability. Then the vehicle was taken back, leaving me without transportation and making it even harder to earn a living and support my family.

The truth is, I am exhausted.

Not because I want to give up, but because grief, medical emergencies, caregiving, financial hardship, and loss have all arrived at once. It feels like every time I manage to stand back up, another wave knocks me down.

Still, every morning I get up and keep fighting for my children, my sister, and the memory of my mother. Today, I'm humbly asking for help.

If you are able to help in any way whether through assistance, resources, sharing this post, prayers, or words of encouragement I would be deeply grateful. I am willing to provide documentation for funeral expenses, utility bills, and other circumstances to anyone who would like verification.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I know everyone is carrying their own burdens, and even if all you can offer is a kind word, it means more than you know. I'm not asking for someone else to solve my problems. I'm simply asking for a little help carrying the weight while I find my footing again.
