On Friday evening, as we were winding down and getting ready for bed, our lives took a scary turn. Jon noticed a strange glow coming from outside our bedroom window. Since we don't have back lights other than a motion sensor, he knew something was wrong.

When he looked out, he saw our small chicken coop was on fire. While Jon called 911 and fought the fire with our garden hose, the wind and heat caused the fire to spread rapidly. By the time fire rescue arrived, the flames had spread to both coops and reached our fence, melting the siding on our house and coming dangerously close to our deck. We were forced to evacuate our home immediately.

We are incredibly lucky and grateful that the fire department saved our house. However, we have damages that we were not expecting. Our fence needs six panels replaced to keep our property secure, our home’s siding is damaged, and most importantly, our chickens are now without a home.

Because this is a rental property and we unfortunately did not have renters' insurance, we are facing these repair costs entirely out of pocket. As many of you know, an emergency like this is never something you can fully prepare for. We are asking for your help to help us repair the fence, replace the melted siding, and build a safe new home for our chickens.
