Help Muslim Family Buy a Riba Free Home

Short Summary

We are a Muslim family of 5 living in Ontario, Canada, committed to obeying Allah by avoiding Riba (interest), even in today’s difficult housing market. Instead of taking a conventional mortgage, we are launching a community‑funded, interest‑free home model: your donations help us buy a halal home, and our monthly repayments go back to support people in need and future Muslim families who also refuse Riba, in sha Allah.

Our Story

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

We are a practicing Muslim family living in Ontario, Canada. Like many families in Canada and the USA, we dream of a stable home for our children, close to schools, masjids, and a safe community. The usual path is to go to the bank and take a mortgage with interest, but we believe this is not an option for us as Muslims.

The Qur’an is very clear about Riba (interest). Allah says:

“Allah has permitted trade and forbidden Riba.” (Qur’an 2:275)

He also warns:

“O you who believe, do not consume Riba, multiplied many times over, and fear Allah so that you may be successful.” (Qur’an 3:130)

And:

“O you who believe, be mindful of Allah and give up what remains of Riba, if you are truly believers. If you do not, then be informed of a war from Allah and His Messenger.” (Qur’an 2:278–279)

Because of these verses and the agreement of scholars that conventional mortgages involve Riba, we cannot feel at peace signing a standard interest‑based loan. At the same time, halal mortgage options in our country are limited and often very expensive or inaccessible for families like ours.

We do not want our dream of a home to come at the cost of displeasing Allah. That is why we are turning to our community for a different path.

Our Solution: A Community Riba‑Free Home Fund

With your help, we want to pilot a simple, transparent, Sharia‑conscious alternative:

  1. Donations, not investments
  2. Every contribution to this campaign is sadaqah (charity for the sake of Allah). There is no expectation of any repayment to donors.
  3. Using the fund to buy a home without interest
  4. The collected funds will be used directly to pay the builder/seller towards a home for our family, so we can move in without signing an interest‑based mortgage, in sha Allah.
  5. Monthly repayments back into the fund (no interest)
  6. Our family commits to repay the principal amount over a period of up to 25 years or less (Can’t be more) through fixed monthly payments.
  7. We will repay only what was used for the home – no interest, no profit added as a condition, to avoid anything that resembles Riba.
  8. Turning repayments into ongoing charity
  9. The monthly repayments will not go back to donors. Instead, they will stay in the fund to:
  10. Provide monthly support to families in need (food, rent, medical costs, etc.).
  11. It will go to charities to support people in need
  12. Extra charity and zakat from us
  13. In addition to repaying the principal, we personally commit to giving Zakat on the raised money of 2.5% which is an added value to the sake of Allah for the money that was raised which can support more people in need.
  14. This extra giving is our own pledge of gratitude, not a condition of the loan, so that the structure remains free of Riba.

Our dream is that this becomes a revolving, community housing fund: your donation helps one family today, and over time the same money continues to support many more families and needy people, in sha Allah, like a continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah).

What We Need

  1. Target home cost / shortfall: $800,000.
  2. From this GoFundMe, we aim to raise $856,000 to cover:
  3. Down payment / construction payments.
  4. Legal and registration fees.

We will not use the funds for luxury upgrades or non-essential expenses. Any surplus collected beyond what is actually needed for the home will stay in the fund to support needy families.

Transparency and Accountability

To build trust with you and with Allah:

  1. We will keep a separate account for the fund and publish simple annual summaries showing:
  2. Total donations received.
  3. Amount used for the home.
  4. Amount repaid so far.
  5. How much has been distributed to families in need.
  6. How much is reserved to help the next family.
  7. We are actively consulting with local imams and qualified scholars to keep the structure as Sharia‑compliant as possible, and we will adjust the model if they advise improvements.
  8. If our situation changes and we are ever forced to sell the home, we will prioritize paying back what remains due to the fund and then handle any surplus according to scholar guidance, always honoring donors’ intention of charity and support for the needy.

Why Your Support Matters

  1. You help a real Muslim family avoid Riba while providing a stable home for their children.
  2. You turn your donation into ongoing benefit, as the same money circulates to help future families and the poor.
  3. You revive the spirit of community solidarity, waqf, and cash‑based charitable housing models that scholars and practitioners are using around the world to address housing and poverty.

Every amount counts. Even a small gift, given sincerely, can grow into something much larger with Allah’s mercy.

Call to Action

If this cause touches your heart, please:

  1. Donate whatever you can, with the intention of helping a family avoid Riba and building a long‑term charity.
  2. Share this campaign with family, friends, and your local masjid or community WhatsApp groups.
  3. Make du‘a that Allah purifies our intentions, accepts this effort, protects us all from Riba, and allows this project to grow into a sustainable community fund.

May Allah reward you for every brick in this home and every future family helped through this initiative. Ameen.
