GREAT, ONCE: A FILM TO SAVE A LIFE
Here’s the reality: someone you know is being profoundly impacted by opioid addiction.
As of July 2023, 3 million Americans battle this addiction daily. They could be family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or spouses.*
Today, someone near you is isolated, unable to work, and deeply depressed because of opioids. There’s a chance they might become one of 136 people who die each day from these drugs.**
Despite all this, there is hope: we can do something about it. The film SOUND OF FREEDOM has shown the power of spreading awareness by sharing a needed message and potentially saving the lives of children trafficked in the trade. Our film, GREAT, ONCE, can have the same impact on individuals and families battling drug addiction.
GREAT, ONCE explores the need to face the current moment and improvise a better tomorrow–something everyone yearns for now. In Jazz and acting, improvisation is all about navigating your story, discovering a new way of facing chaos, and turning it into something beautiful.
In this film, Reed Francis, a reclusive Jazz bass legend, has left the music world behind. He’s living in anonymity with his wife and daughter until his world flips upside down. As he fights to save his family, a documentarian finds him and offers to restart his career.
Crumbling under the weight of an opioid addiction, the last thing he wants is to return to the Jazz world. That is, until Evelyn Hahn, documentarian and Jazz historian, shows up and offers to help him with his family crisis.
Reluctantly, Reed accepts the offer in exchange for being a part of the documentary by interviewing, performing in a concert, and recording an album.
As he awakens his dormant gifts and talents, things grow more complicated and more tense for him. Through the growing friendship with Evelyn, he discovers his life still has worth and begins facing his failures.
But as the concert approaches, life throws him another curve and tosses his promising future into question. Can Reed overcome his past failures and opioid addiction to save his family and reclaim his career?
