Gosport Islamic Society have submitted a planning application a shop into a mosque at 351B Forton Road, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 3HF.

The proposal is on a busy main road (A32), has no dedicated parking, and expects to attract 50-60 worshippers on Fridays and at festivals like Eid, and to open for prayers five times daily.

Local people are rightly concerned, particularly at the extra traffic in this congested area, and the harm to local amenity and to the character of this traditional British high street.

The mosque would be on a school route, close to a recreation ground and children’s play area.

I am asking you for donations toward the out-of-pocket expenses of £2,000 to resist it.

As usual, none of the money goes to me, but to the costs of fighting this application.
