My son Brady urgently needs help.

On a freezing night, we found him outside in the snow, incoherent and in a state of medical crisis. Fearing another stroke, we rushed him to the hospital, but he was sent home without proper evaluation. Hours later, he went into full psychosis. He was terrified and unable to recognize us; we had no choice but to call for emergency help.

Instead of receiving medical care, Brady---who has Asperger's and has never had mental health issues or a criminal record---was wrongfully charged. His psychosis was a medical emergency, not a crime.

He has now spent over ten months between the county jail and the state hospital, often without access to proper advocacy, consistent legal support, or even his prescription glasses. For months, he was left in a psychotic state; confused, terrified, and alone. The state of Oregon has failed to follow the required standards for individuals in mental health crises, and Brady has suffered greatly because of it.

Brady is a kind, gentle young man. He grew up overcoming challenges; earned three college degrees, became an Eagle Scout, ran triathlons, and was loved by everyone who knew him. He deserves protection, not punishment.

Our family is fighting every day to get him the medical treatment, legal advocacy, and disability protections he should have received from the beginning. We are exhausted emotionally and financially. We are asking for support to help secure proper legal representation and the therapies he will need to recover from this traumatic ordeal.
