Joel's Scoliosis Journey

First, thank you so much for even reading Joel's story and considering a donation and/or prayers. Our grandson, Joel, was diagnosed with Scoliosis at a school sports physical in February 2025. At this time, he was told it was "common" for boys his age, especially those who were growing a lot, and "not to worry" about it. He was cleared to play baseball, as the doctor then also stated it was "mild". We didn't worry, initially, until he started having back pain and leg pains as the season progressed. Then, over the summer, he had a great hit at a game, and unfortunately as he ran to first base he was in terrible pain. He tried to play through it a couple more games-if you know Joel he loves baseball, but the pain progressed. We were all concerned about an injury so his parents took him to get an x-ray. We were all shocked to see that the curve was not in fact "mild" and/or it must have progressed. This started the journey for more help. His parent's took him to several local doctors seeking advice, guidance etc. and also sought help from his primary doctor. He had an MRI, and it was discovered he also currently has bone marrow swelling in one of his vertebrae. After a lot of research, his parent's settled on an expert from New York with over 40 years of experience in treating Scoliosis, with a non-surgical approach. Unfortunately, the doctor's services are not covered by insurance. The out-of-pocket expenses thus far have been about $16,000-17,000 as he has just begun a 2-week intensive treatment program. During this time, we have also learned that his curvature is quite significant. He is likely to need further intensive treatments in NY, and a new brace every time he grows 2-3 cm, as he's not done growing yet. He's likely to keep growing the next 2 years. These trips mean travel to NY each time. Each brace will cost about $5400. Each week of intensive treatments cost $3800. The funds raised will go to help his family cover these costs. We are praying and declaring that Joel's story will be a great success! This will be his testimony of the Lord's love and grace. Any and all assistance that you can offer--financial and/or prayer--is greatly appreciated. May the Lord bless you and your family.
