I never imagined that one moment could shatter a life into pieces and rearrange it in ways we couldn't have fathomed. It was just another morning, or so we thought, when Don’s car crash turned our world upside down. A simple act of driving to an appointment became the turning point for him and his family.

Don’s journey since that fateful day has been a rollercoaster ride—over 30 days in UAB, numerous surgeries & endless medical procedures and since early September he has been focusing on rehab at the Shepherd Center. Don’s C5 ASIA A spinal cord injury means he'll need around-the-clock care and support, not just for himself but also for his wife Shannon who stands by him every step of this arduous path.

The cost of all this? Overwhelming! Every day at the hospital feels like a small budget movie with expenses piling up faster than we can count them—from travel costs to meals, and more. And it’s not just about today; they need long-term solutions too, such as setting up their home for wheelchair accessibility and purchasing a handicap accessible vehicle that will make life easier in the most basic ways like doctor’s visits, shopping or visiting family.

Yet through this storm of challenges, there’s something beautiful happening: love—the kind that sees no barriers and feels deeply despite any obstacle placed before it. It’s what keeps Don pushing forward every single day as he fights to regain some sense of normalcy in his life post-injury.
