This campaign is to enable the Bright Model Orphanage school in Mwponde, Western Uganda, improve their teaching resources and begin to generate their own income, through the purchase of a laptop, high quality photocopier, and mobile phone, and offering printing and photocopy services to their community, to produce income.
This income will then be put towards meeting their many, many needs, including: buying uniform, shoes, exercise books, food, producing exams in-house, repairing leaking roofs, purchasing playground equipment, etc.
Background - Two years ago, when floods destroyed their crops, they had no food and about 150 hungry children. Somehow, this information appeared on my computer, on Facebook, and following a tugging in my heart, I made contact with Bwambale Erisa, the director of the school. When I discovered that they are Christian, I was very strongly moved to do something.
It was relatively easy for me to apply my computer skills to organise a fundraiser on Givesendgo. Then, God led other people around the world to give money, which I then forwarded to Bwambale, who then bought food and took photos and documented all the transactions for me.
This food fed the children and purchased relief for them all. This experience led to us to continue to communicate.
We discussed the issue of food security and agreed that the next step was to help them buy land so that they could grow their own food and no longer be so dependent on donations. This was achieved through a second fundraising campaign, and by God's grace, money was raised and land was purchased for the school, last year. Bwambale again documented everything. They have just had their first harvest!
A private donation led to the purchase of some sewing machines for the school, and this led to us beginning to talk about ways to generate an income.
About Bwambale Erisa - Last year, Bwambale graduated with a bachelor's degree in primary education, and a certificate in public administration and management, from Team University, in Kampala, Uganda. (Please see his graduation photos in the gallery.) This degree has given Bwambale the skills to lead the children and 9 staff (both teaching and non-teaching) towards the goals of the school. In addition, Bwambale is a born-again Christian, who likes reading the Bible and teaching young children the word of God, through Bible study. He also preaches the Word of God to the old persons in church, when his pastor assigns him. He is also an administrator in his church.
I have now been communicating with Bwambale for two years. I have total confidence in what he is doing at Bright Model Orphanage School. He is an earnest Christian who teaches me so much about having faith and continually giving thanks to God, in the face of sometimes extreme adversity. If you wish, you can see the progress of the last two years through the previous fundraising campaigns. I am very excited by this particular fundraising campaign because it will give them the tools to develop their own income, a truly empowering mission.
How we developed the concept for this fundraiser - My own experiences in earning money have shown me the critical need these days of having access to the internet. Anyone reading this online will understand, that the internet provides so many opportunities for income generation. And so, a few months ago, I suggested to Bwambale that a laptop could help him produce an income for the school. He said yes, and that it was his dream to have one; but so also would a photocopier/printer, because then they could print their own exams for the children, and could offer photocopy services to the community to earn money. This led to us making this fundraiser.
Just after Bwambale made these videos a few weeks ago, his mobile phone started having problems. And as this also is a critical item for accessing the internet, this fundraiser is now also for the purchase of a new mobile phone.
And so, it is our prayer, that you might consider making a donation to help Bwambale Erisa, director of the the Bright Model Orphanage School in Mwponde, Western Uganda, to purchase:
* a laptop computer- Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL Intel core i7 8GBRAM - $4,000,000 UGS = $1,062.96.00 USD
* a photocopier - Konica Minolta Bizhub C452 colour photocopier Us $6,500,000 UGS = $1,727.31USD
* 20 boxes of paper $86,000 per box x 20 = $1,720,000 = $457.00 USD
* a new mobile phone with protective case - TecnoCamon 18P 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage $908,000 UGS = $241.29 USD
* a surge protector to protect the electrical equipment APC Easy UPS SMV 1000VA Universal outlet 230V SMV1000I-MS $1,200,000 UGs = $318.89 USD
Total in USD = $3,807.45 USD,
so say, fundraise for $5,200 USD ($8,439 NZD)
to provide extra for transportation costs of items to Mwponde, Western Uganda and other incidentals.
Please see our first update for the video of Bwambale speaking about the needs of the children at the school, and all the precious children around him, and how these items will be able to greatly help them, both in education, printing exams, and income generation, by providing a photocopying and printing service to the community, and by opening up opportunities for income-generating possibilities on the internet.
Thank you so much for your consideration. God bless you.
