We are the Hopeful Resettlement Family: A (M61), K (F57), and our beloved son, S (37), daughter C (29), son-in-law J (24) and 4 granddaughters, DL(12), twins (9) and C(5) As proud South Africans, raised in both Afrikaans and English traditions, we’ve built our lives on faith, hard work, and love for our family.
A Plea for a Safer Future: Help Our Family Escape Fear in South Africa
We are a white minority family living on a remote farm in South Africa, a place that was once our cherished home but now feels like a prison of fear. Discriminatory laws, a fragile economy, and the constant threat of violent crime have stripped away our peace and security. As parents, we dream of a brighter future for ourselves, our children and granddaughters—a future where they can experience the carefree childhood they deserve, free from the shadow of danger. That future lies in the United States, and with your support, we can make it a reality.
The Harsh Realities We Face in South Africa
South Africa’s challenges have hit our family hard. Government policies, including discriminatory laws, make it nearly impossible for us to secure stable employment or own property without the looming fear of seizure. These laws don’t uplift the disadvantaged—they seem designed to punish families like ours for our race, pushing us toward poverty despite our hard work and determination.Worse still is the pervasive threat of violent crime. Brutal cases of rape, torture, and murder haunt our daily lives. We live in constant terror of home invasions and assaults, especially given the isolation of our rented farm. Safe and affordable rentals are scarce and often overpriced, leaving us with few options. Every creak or rustle in the night sends us into a panic, gripped by the fear of a violent attack. This relentless stress steals our sleep, our joy, and our sense of safety.
Our granddaughters, bear the heaviest burden of this reality. They can’t play outside without supervision, ride their bicycles beyond our yard, or join sports and social activities without the justified fear that they could become another statistic among missing children. As parents and grandparents, it breaks our hearts to see them miss out on the carefree childhood they deserve.
Our Dream: A Fresh Start in the USA
We dream of a life in the United States, a safe haven where our family can thrive without fear. We’ve applied for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for Afrikaners, hoping our names will be called soon. I’ve also been tirelessly applying for U.S. jobs to secure a sponsored visa, leveraging my expertise in health and safety, but the process is slow and uncertain. The U.S. government’s 2025 executive order offers hope, promising to cover essential costs like temporary housing, food, and basic household items for our first 90 days if our refugee application is approved. But this support, while a vital stepping stone, is limited and may not fully bridge the gap to self-sufficiency.South Africa’s weak economy and unfavorable exchange rates mean that even selling everything we own won’t provide enough to ensure a stable start in the U.S. That’s why we’re reaching out to you—kind-hearted supporters—to help us build a secure foundation for our new life.
How Your Support Will Help Us Thrive

Here’s how we plan to use the funds:
Cost of attending interviews: Unfortunately, these are only conducted in two cities very far from where I live:
- 749 km (465 miles) away in one direction
- 1115 km (693 miles) away in the other
This means every interview requires long-distance travel, overnight accommodation, meals, and transport costs. For someone with no income since September 2025, these expenses are simply unaffordable.
The distance alone makes each trip a major financial strain, and without your support I cannot cover these costs. Your contributions help me attend the required interviews so that we can move forward.
Professional Certifications & Training: Certifying my qualifications to meet U.S. OSHA standards and attending additional courses to align with U.S. employment requirements, so I can secure a stable job quickly.
Children’s Needs: Providing school supplies, clothing, and extracurricular activities to help D, K, C and CB settle into their new community and enjoy the childhood they’ve been denied.
Transportation: Covering local travel costs, such as bus fares or car rentals, for job interviews and school commutes during and after the initial 90 days.
Emergency Savings: Creating a safety net for unforeseen expenses, like medical emergencies or delays in employment, to avoid financial stress.
Living Expenses: Supporting rent, utilities, and groceries after the 90-day period, bridging the gap until we’re earning steady incomes.Every dollar you contribute will directly support our family’s journey to stability, allowing us to contribute to our new community with the same dedication we’ve shown in South Africa.
