My name is Shanyll Rojas, and for a long time, I thought the hardest parts of my story would be the things people remembered most about me.

Growing up, I faced challenges that no child should have to carry. There were moments when life felt unfair, unstable, and overwhelming. There were times when I felt unheard, misunderstood, and unsure of what my future would look like. Some days, simply making it through felt like an accomplishment. The weight of those experiences followed me for years, and there were moments when it seemed easier to believe that my circumstances would define me forever.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I had a choice. I could let my pain write my story, or I could pick up the pen myself.

That choice wasn’t easy. Healing isn’t a straight line. There were setbacks, disappointments, tears, and moments when I wanted to give up. Yet every obstacle taught me something about resilience. Every hardship showed me a strength within myself that I didn’t know existed. Instead of allowing my struggles to break me, I used them to build me.

Today, I am a proud graduate, and an incoming student at Westfield State University. Walking across that graduation stage meant more than earning a diploma. It represented every battle I fought when no one was watching. It represented every moment I chose to keep going when quitting felt easier. It represented becoming the person I once needed when I was younger.

My experiences have inspired my passion for victim advocacy and helping others who may feel lost, unheard, or alone. I know what it feels like to need support, guidance, and someone who believes in you. My goal is to dedicate my life to being that person for others. I want to turn my pain into purpose and create a future where my story helps someone else survive theirs.

As I prepare to begin this next chapter, I am asking for support with college expenses, housing, books, and the many costs that come with pursuing higher education. Asking for help has never been easy for me, but I have learned that strength is not carrying every burden alone. Sometimes strength is allowing others to walk beside you.

This fundraiser is not just about paying for college. It is about investing in a young woman who refused to become a product of her circumstances. It is about helping someone who has fought hard for every opportunity continue moving forward. It is about proving that where you come from does not determine where you can go.
