Baby Luca was born at just 26 weeks and has been bravely fighting ever since. He was also born with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and has faced numerous medical challenges during his NICU journey. Along the way, Luca has been diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and pulmonary hypertension, in addition to other complications including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and rickets. He recently underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure to close an atrial septal defect (ASD).

Because of the complexity of Luca’s condition, he is now being transferred from Ochsner Baptist in New Orleans to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where specialists focus specifically on treating severe BPD and pulmonary hypertension.

This transition is a huge step for Luca and his family. His mom, Julia, is a nurse here in Louisiana, and she and her husband Marc also have two children at home. Traveling to Houston for extended care means time away from work, time away from home, and many unexpected expenses.

We are raising funds to help support the Chacon family during this incredibly difficult season. Donations will help with travel, housing, meals, and everyday needs so that Julia can spend as much time as possible by Luca’s side while also ensuring their children at home are cared for during this transition.
