In August 2021, after receiving my second Covid vaccine, I experienced a severe adverse reaction that changed my life.

At the time, I trusted Toronto Public Health’s guidance and followed all recommendations. Like many others, I believed the systems in place were designed to protect patients and communicate honestly with both doctors and the public.

After my reaction, my physician submitted an Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) report to Toronto Public Health. In response, TPH issued a Letter of Recommendations to my doctor regarding my care.

Because many medical appointments were still being conducted remotely in 2021, I requested what I believed would be a copy of that same letter for my own records.

What I later discovered shocked me.

The version sent to me was NOT identical to the letter sent to my doctors. Important portions of the recommendations had been removed from the copy I received, leaving me unaware of information my physicians had access to. As a result, there was a serious disconnect between what my doctors understood and what I believed had been recommended for my treatment.

It was only in June 2023 — nearly two years later — that I accidentally discovered the discrepancy. Once my doctors became aware of it, my care changed immediately.

That delay came at an enormous cost.

I suffered unnecessarily. My children suffered alongside me. And I continue to live with significant neurological and muscular impairments caused by damage to multiple cranial nerves and part of the pons in my brain.

Speaking publicly and advocating for myself is extremely difficult because of these injuries.

That is why I am deeply grateful to Daniel Freiheit and Lion Advocacy for helping bring attention to my case and pushing for accountability through Freedom of Information requests and public health deputations.

We are seeking accountability, transparency, and answers — including whether other patients may have experienced similar issues affecting their medical care.
