Helping Adam Francisco recover (kidney transplant)

Most of you know me from my YouTube channel so you’ve been on the journey with me since March 2022 when I had the worst gout attack of my life which led directly into months of foot and knee problems up until my kidney failure diagnosis (end stage renal disease). The cause of my kidney failure is glomerulonephritis, an autoimmune disease.

For 3.5 years I battled kidney failure using various dialysis modalities including :

  • In-clinic hemodialysis for ~5 months
  • Peritoneal dialysis for ~2 years
  • Home hemodialysis for ~10 months

During this journey, I received 7 blood transfusions, battled multiple infections of my peritoneum, blood, ear, and face, mostly due to side effects or complications from kidney failure or dialysis. I also suffered significant muscle wasting in my legs, neuropathy of the feet, hormone imbalances, elevated liver enzymes, bouts of fatigue, and skin color changes.  To say that this was a hard and long fought battle would be an understatement. I pray for anyone who has kidney failure or has to do dialysis to stay alive.

My story changed when Charlie, a selfless man and a believer in Christ, stepped up and applied to be my living kidney donor in May. From the onset, he confidently said that he knew we would be a 1% direct match (the likelihood of a non-familial person matching).  After months of tests, we were approved for a 9/4 transplant date.

Unfortunately, I developed a shingles outbreak a few days before 9/4. Once the outbreak resolved, we rescheduled for 10/7/25.

On October 7, 2025 at around 930am, I received a second chance of life from Charlie at Tampa General Hospital.

The road to recovery can take anywhere between six months to a year. My assumption is, I will be closer to the six months given my overall health, age, physical fitness, as well as my discipline and commitment to adhere to the diet, fluid, exercise, and medication regimen from my medical team.

Keep in mind a kidney transplant is not a cure to kidney failure. It is just the best form of treatment that is available today. I will have to be on immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of my life to prevent kidney rejection. This increases my risk for infections, illness, skin issues, weight gain, gastrointestinal issues, liver damage, diabetes & more. I will never be healthy again in the formal sense of the word, but I can be healthy enough to resume living a normal life.

This fundraiser is meant to help support my recovery from the kidney transplant, sticking to my treatment plan and the content that I create.
