Supporting Xavier's Family

Campaign Created by: Lisa Aylstock

The funds from this campaign will be received by Nicole Wagstrom.

Goal: USD $50,000
Raised: USD $ 17,722

Just three weeks ago, the week of July 11, our cousin Xavier seemed to be a normal, active 12 year old, enjoying his time visiting our family in our Florida beach town. On July 15, Xavier was experiencing lethargy, constipation, and breathing issues, so his parents took him to the Sacred Heart Children's ER in the middle of the night. The hospital staff quickly determined Xavier was suffering from leukemia. Once labs were run it became clear Xavier was also suffering from acute liver failure. Sacred Heart Children's Hospital knew they couldn't provide for Xavier's serious needs so they quickly arranged an emergency medical jet to fly him to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, one of five hospitals in the country with a MARS liver dialysis machine. Xavier was intubated and received several days of liver dialysis to help his lungs self-heal as better liver function is a requirement to begin full chemo treatment for leukemia. As Xavier's liver was showing healing progress, he was extubated, less sedated, and mental status improved. Xavier was upgraded into the liver recovery stage on July 23 and was on his way to soon beginning full chemotherapy to battle the leukemia. However, on July 30, Xavier began showing signs of pneumonia and a CT scan showed a mass in his lungs. A bronchoscopy on August 1 revealed a lung infection in Xavier's right lung, which was diagnosed as Mucor - a rare, devastating, and very fast spreading fungi. The medical staff made the difficult decision to remove Xavier's right lung, which occurred during an 8+ hour surgery on August 5. Doctors involved in this surgery did not believe Xavier would survive, but praise God for miracle after miracle, Xavier pulled through the organ removal surgery and has been showing progress with recovery. Prayers are that his body, now with one less lung, can recover to the point of being able to endure the chemotherapy/leukemia treatments. In addition to the prayers of many, this fund was set up to further help support and lift up Xavier and his family. I asked Nicole for permission to set this up and she has attached her bank information so this fundraising, minus a small percentage to the payment processing company, goes directly to the Wagstroms. Thank you so much for your prayers for the Wagstroms and for your consideration to this fund! May God bless your family as well! Update: Xavier Wagstrom was called home to the Lord on August 20, 2022, with his family by his side, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. His funeral was held on September 3, Xavier's 13th Birthday, at Be Hope Church in Beavercreek, Ohio.
